Traveling to Illinois (but not Chicago)

I Would love to see this lead to reciprocity. Marriage is not specifically addressed in the constitution but “arms” are. I was surprised by Obergefell decision which, to me, appears to create a right of dignity and is not based on equal protection or even full faith and credit.
Has the court granted certiorari?

Not yet that I know of. I hope they take the case.

@45IPAC I was reading something just today that was really interesting. The original bill from 2013 which made Illinois the 50th state to “Allow” Concealed Carry of a firearm contained out of state licenses to be issued, I called the Illinois State Police Concealed Carry Division but their phones in their call center were already switched to the after-hours message. They close at 5PM but I didn’t get in time at 4:35PM I will call them again tomorrow because I have another question about renewing my license. When I get their answer I’m going to adjust my posting.

@Robert8, that would be awesome if you post this info here.
I keep :crossed_fingers: for you… Sometimes I feel that ISP exist is different time zone… Depending what is the best for them it could be Eastern Time or Pacific Time… but never Central :zipper_mouth_face:

I don’t know if this is relevant to the conversation or not… but when I try to look up restrictions in the state, there are a “Home Rule” and non home rule municipalities which might or might not be the same as the surrounding areas. This makes it very confusing for me, especially trying to track down and read the listings and restrictions.

You are right @Scotty! IL does not have a preemption law so firearms restrictions can vary from city to city.

I think there are some preemption laws in IL, no? Resident vs non resident restrictions and allowances. FOID and CCW permit restrictions and allowances. It’s really confusing.

State rules override local laws. Unless you’re going to be staying in Deerfield, IL with an AR15; or Highland Park with any gun at all. Those two suburbs have unenforceable laws. When Deerfield forced residents to turn in the AR15’s the Illinois State Rifle Association fought the rule and as far as I know it’s being litigated in the US Supreme Court. And Highland Park bans everything. It’s a very affluent suburb and I don’t want to be presumptuous but unless those two suburban areas are your destination then you have nothing to be concerned about. It’s just about the same difference between US Law and State Law where Federal law overrides State. If you need further explanation call ISP CCW DEPARTMENT 217-782-7980

You are right. IL has enacted preemption but there are some exceptions. The most notable is the 10 round magazine limit in Cook County.

@MikeBKY, in such case ( 10 round magazine limit in Cook County ) - does it apply to Cook County residents only or any person who just walk into the County’s boundary?

It would apply in Cook County. I have a couple 10 rd G26 factory mags that I bring with me when ever I go to ChiTown to visit my daughter. Everything else gets emptied from the car.

The Illinois preemptions, has to be in place before the Conceal Carry law went into effect. It doesn’t allow for any NEW preemptions. And the Illinois anti’s want to do away with that statute, so place like Deerfield can violate our rights.

Well Friends this is my net results; I called the state 5 times today finally got through to a real person in the ISP CCW Department because I will be renewing my license in a few days and had a question about my fingerprints which I submitted 5 years ago and my question was do I have to resubmit each time. I wanted to be sure and double check, and be respectful because I’m not in favor of my license being held up because they may not have liked my tone (you never know but now I do) the answer is for you Illinois folks is NO, you don’t have to resubmit fingerprints. There’s no absolute requirements to submit fingerprints from the onset but the rub is that no fingerprints means that it just about doubles the waiting time for the Concealed Carry license to arrive.
As to my next question as to why when the original bill included the provisions to have non-residents issued out-of-state licenses I was told off record that the Democrat controlled house at the onset was not in favor of out of state licenses nor the ability not to control to do the 720 background checks each year and then out of state people could not be sold a FOID Card and the daily maintenance. It was believed originally in 2013 that there would be lots of cowboys on the streets of Chicago with Frontier Justice on their minds. It was never true and it never happened I think they were disappointed it didn’t. Just as in VA that it didn’t happen and there was no White Nationalist in VA either. So it’s evident that it’s about money and power in my opinion. This was what I was told “off the record”

Picked up my mail and found my official mail in Illinois voting ballot. I had ordered it online, available in my location. Two polling questions which caught my attention were “If those with higher incomes should be taxed higher”, but also interesting to me was the question below on my ballot:

“Should the State of Illinois restrict the sale or possession of firearms that have been defined as assault weapons or of magazines that can hold more than a certain number of rounds of ammunition?”

At least they are giving you an option at the polls. Hopefully the those in Chicago see the light!

We have an unusual one in Louisville. There is a referendum on the ballot about raising school taxes. The shortened version of the question is “Are you for or against [raising school taxes?]
Yes or No”

The question is horrible! Are you for raising taxes? Are you against raising taxes?

I would hope teachers are outraged with this question. Whether you are for or against, the answer is yes. The only ones who should say no are the folks who don’t care.
