It is a good idea, a neat little thing, but again, too scrimpy and tight for me. I tried it a few times, carrying a Ruger LCP. It can take a bigger gun, but not a big gun.
One of the things I am realizing is that the issue may be more the size of the gun than the carry device. Has anyone got/tried the S&W Bodyguard 2.0?
Find a range where you can rent one before buying. Definitely not for everyone.
Thanks. Have range time and plan to give it a try. I am a huge fan of the Equalizer. Tried a friend’s little Ruger. Really snappy recoil. Expecting similar. At this point the holster rig seems to be the answer. The project continues!
Although I sometimes use a shoulder holster that I am very comfortable with, I might suggest one or two belly style options to consider. I suggest this only because shoulder holsters print on me, and shoulder holsters can present problems with athletic attire when trying for a clean presentation without sweeping the body (when worn under a sweatshirt or zippered sweater).
Here are two options, one of which is limited on which model pistol you have, the other makes use of whatever holster you choose.
The “use any holster” option would be the Hunter Constantine Carry Belt. I’ve thought about purchasing one, but haven’t yet. This is worn like a belly band, but has a stiff front section for attaching your holster.
The other option which seemed to have many positive reviews, is the PHLster Enigma AIWB holster. Unfortunately, the Enigma system works with “compatible holsters” which means more internet searching and purchasing in addition to the initial system (plus assembly).
That being said, for shoulder holsters I have two, both from Galco. They are both customized from their original configuration with optional Galco parts, e.g. extra-wide shoulder straps (2.5"). Unfortunately swapping these parts added to the overall price (so that custom-maker shoulder holster might be a competitive option): The Classic Lite (they have a version 2 that looks similar) for a Kahr CW45 and a Miami Classic for an M&P 2.0 full size 40S&W.
Although I replaced both shoulder straps with the 2.5" wide shoulder harness, you will still need to do an initial adjustment, then a week or so of wearing for the leather straps to form to your shoulders, and a final readjustment is often necessary. It takes practice to originally put it on, but once you get it (like a backpack) it’s easy and pretty fast to put on. Practice un-holstering and re-holstering with an empty gun is recommended with the clothing you are planning to use. Be careful of snags when drawing (like from catching on a zippered sweater so that you don’t end up with a loaded gun pointing right at your chest because the handle or beaver tail caught on the edge of your clothing.
Placement without a belt/belt loop is better as far up under your armpits as possible as to be stable on the body. Again, some might have issues if you have a hard time reaching across your chest.
I sometimes have this setup in the winter because, for me without a thick/heavy jacket, when closed it looks like I’m carrying paperback books under my armpits. For a body composition reference, I’m 6’, 200 lbs, with a 44" chest and 34" waist.
I’ll add, the shoulder holster system doesn’t have to be for a pistol. It also serves well if you just want a carry system for extra magazines, flashlight, knife or multitool, tourniquet, etc. when you are not wearing a belt.
Thank you @Scotty . That is a lot of great information. You are about the same build as me… I am 6 feet, 160 pounds (yeah, kind of skinny… have to watch for high winds Waist is a bit bigger since everything decided to sag south). Part of what makes this all a lot of work and trying things is that I had a lot of lung surgery on my left side that left some ribs a bit sunken. So, a vertical shoulder rig would not seem to print much right up snug under my arm. I’m playing with a belly band now. Fellow shooter friend is making a leather strap that will connect to either side that go upper over my shoulders. I shall share the final methods when I get all of this research and macguyvering done.
The printing for me is the handle sticking out in front, showing a square form between the very bottom of the chest and the middle of the bicep.
Take a look at the Inigma by Phlster. No belt needed, I workout with it on. I can wear this holster for 10+ hours and have even forgotten it was on! I’ll never use another now. I carry Sig P365.
Thank you @Larry356. I’ll give it a look…
@Larry356 Welcome to our community, we are glad to have you with us.
Thank you Bruce!
Ain’t it kinda funny or whatever it is how on movies and stuff someone always just takes any handgun and sticks it upright in the back of their pants and just go everywhere like that ? I tried that twice yrs ago and all I got was after a few uncomfortable steps a nice gun going down my britches and it hitting the floor muzzle first. And I would hate to bugger up the origin of the rifling because if you do you may never get another consistent shot out of it ever again unless you get it fixed and that’s not easy at all even for a smith, it’s a bigger deal with a accurate rifle because you’re shooting MOAs with them. That’s why I always loved the CZ Mauser we used to get . IDK if they were CZ 54s or what I can’t remember because it was back when all surplus guns were flooded out there and you could get 99% of them for $100! But the CZ-Brno Mausers were counter bored to protect the muzzle and rifling. Those were the days.
Come to think of it I think they were VZ and some number but they were from Chechlovakia ( sp ) ? Before it became the Chech Republic after the war. The Germans took the BRNO gun manufacturing facility over fast because they made guns so well and the Checechs ( I can’t spell this stuff) were forced to make Mausers for the Jerry’s and they would bend some of the sights so they wouldn’t be so accurate, I think we had sun like that. Great guns
these folks are very good at what they do… need a holster for any firearm (hand gun)…
send em an email and expect a good response! They will custom make at no additional cost!
well that’s what they did for me anyway… pleased with what arrived!!!
AND…
they offer a holster break in kit!
IMHO they offer competitive prices too!
Yea that’s cool, my sons buddy at Hawg handgun holsters ( I think that’s right ) had to make a cpl new holsters he never made before and had to get a blank or plastic gun and take a piece of wet leather and beat around it with a wooden hammer and stuff like that but it’s been awhile. The old gun he made it for was one of my favorite handguns the Polish P-64 9x18 that we used to get for less than $ 200 , a great gun and the perfect one to keep in a truck or toolbox in the bed or wherever because you’ll always have something if needed. They are soo nice IMHO and about flipped when I got my first one for a birthday present from my son and won’t be without one ever since, we got two of them, it’s all steel and it’s a lot like a PPK, the Polish police used them for decades and they were made at this nice gun factory named Radom gun works, can’t see what I’m writing cause page is full I guess, hate that
Found them on the inet. Looks like quite an operation. Methinks we’ll have a conversation.
With the Enigma, compatible holsters are an option. I have a P365 and got thier holster and as part of the complete system. Works flawlessly.
