Yeah, but Facebook and X aren’t doing anything like that. No other social media site is either.
Somehow it’s only TikTok.
Banning TikTok has nothing to do with any of that nonsense.
The TikTok ban was ordered by Israel, who runs and controls our government. Israel is sick of all the anti-Israel rhetoric that goes on there. So we have to be censored to appease our masters in that terror state and our terror state of Washington District of Criminality.
You are being stripped of your First Amendment rights-- and you’re cheering it on.

From what I have read and heard, they already a replacement app called REDNOTE and its from China. People have already started to use it.

Yep. I was never a TikTok fan and never had an account, but I do have RedNote. And it’s awesome.

It’s my understanding that many of the TikTok members fleeing to the Chinese social media apps to post are getting shut down because the Chinese app members don’t agree with the LBGTQ and DEI posts flooding their channels.
A few years ago (unvetted source) was saying that the protocol on some of the Chinese social media platforms was to ban the people getting shamed, instead of the people shaming, as the people shaming represented the larger population/users. It will be interesting to see how this new situation pans out.

I think of the TikTok ban from an ironic historical perspective.
The Opium Wars were the result of the Chinese bans on Western foreign goods. The Chinese government decided that China did not need any of the goods foreigners were trying to sell to Chinese consumers.
Now, the tables are reversed. Western powers, alarmed at China’s dominance in manufacturing are trying to ban or penalize Chinese exports to their countries. That takes the form of bans like TicTok and tariffs on Chinese goods.

Interestingly, someone in my household just got a notification from their employer’s IT team detailing the security risk of Chinese-owned RedNote and Lemmon8 as they track more than your app usage, they use face and object detection to monitor your surroundings. The Chinese government can access and use this data without restrictions.
So…you do you but I choose not to invite all of China and their gov’t into everything about my life that my phone can detect.

You’re definitely missing some awesomeness! The awesome of having the app scan the entire connected network and the devices attached to it and report back to a hostile nation-state. The even more awesome of the same hostile nation using algorithms to promote usage patterns and digestion of media known to cause adverse effects in the target population. Over the top awesomeness. SO awesome I firewalled the application back when it was Music.ly. The best awesomeness about TikTok? You can easily tell in this thread who uses TikTok, and who doesn’t, all without downloading a thing!
