Sheās not new so I donāt want her in the new gun thread but I feel like some of the guys here would like to meet her (yes all my guns are female).
She is an early first year production Remington Rand 1911. At the beginning of WW II, Remington got a ARMY contract and until they were able to make all the parts in-house they started manufacturing using other makers parts and while their guns were very good the ARMY rejected them because of parts interchangeably issues. It took Remington Rand a year to fix their production problems.
In the mean time the guns that the ARMY rejected where used for testing and many of them were internally converted into corporate executive gift pieces and some were sent to RIA (the real/original Rock Island Arsenal) to be turned into target and full custom pieces for members of the military and such.
The very few RIA guns that are documented are worth a pile of money. Unfortunately this is not one of the guns with provenance and no one kept any records so I have no way of proving that this is one of those guns.
BUT what I do know is that this gun was fitted with an old military match barrel and old school target sights and is a one hole shooter with plain old ball ammo, The polish/bluing on it is nearly black and so shinny it makes it look like itās dipped in crude oil. I love this gun!!!
Iād already put stags on her before but they were not a notable set. Well thanks to a good buddy whoās shrinking his collection and sent me this pair heās owned for a long time she is now wearing a set of stags worthy of her.
So, showing her off in her El Paso Saddlery holster she is now officially a Sunday go-to-meeting gun.
Itās all period correct. It was probably made into a custom presentation piece back in the 1940s. At that point it was accurized, fitted with a military match barrel and those old school Target sight, professionally polished so all the marks are visible and given that gorgeous blue/black rust bluing. The parts are all military except for the tall sights which were custom made and fitted. I still have the original pre-WW II grips it originally had in and Iāve been offered a lot of money for them but theyāll stay with this gun.
Just love for firearms, especially the old school blue steel kind. My wife says Iām the biggest gun nerd in the world and a PIA to watch westerns (movies) with
One of lifeās greatest pleasures is going to a friendās house to empty out the safes to fondle and admire his harem over cigars and a glass of good whiskey. No need to shoot anything, just make sure drool is wiped off any surfaces before putting stuff away.
Beautiful, indeed. My poor old Colt is all original, matching numbers that are reasonably low at 5xx,xxx. Sure would like to hear the stories she could tell from two warsā¦
OK is there a switch or some sort of box to check that will set this up like the meme threads???
cause way too often I see no post on this and some other threads and starting to think someone is perhaps not checking the box or switching the switch to on???
and NO I am NOT gonna clear anything as the meme threads always who up and no other board I go to has this problem with ANY of their threads so itās something off HERE!!!
