The other Bondi (Aussie shooting)

I hate it when other parts of the world sayā€ Only in America there is such horrible gun violence and we are a peaceful country cause we are gun freeā€

How is that working out for y’all?? Gun free areas are easy targets, even at Brown University.

This, sadly, was a targeted shooting of Jews. Why can’t some patriots have some targeted shootings of criminals.

How could patriots use criminals as targets?

I knew that. Lol

It’s a good idea I just don’t know how. I think it is something we are all praying for.

If folks, i mean liberal folks would just look at the root cause. Law enforcement is generally reactive. Not against the cops but it is what it is.

Australia is very anti gun. Almost takes an act of God to keep a gun in your house, let alone on your person.

Brown University yesterday. 2 dead, 9 wounded.

Seems like all mass shootings are in gun free zones.

Pretty easy for a murderer to commit his crime when a good chance that a gun carrier won’t be there

Gotta love the left for their beliefs. Its killing people but they feel better

I dont ignore anyone. I may not respond but do not ignore. As frustrating as it is sometimes with some posters, they have the right to their views.

It is what it is. I just won’t respond

How curious. Froze for 20 min. Tbis attack obviously targeted Jews, but the implications are, your house of worship, Christian, Hindu, whatever, is at risk. Your cops might freeze at well. Esp, in cold weather places, Minneapolis, Dearborn, you know what I mean?

Just a question, just tell me if I am way off but, aren’t guns ILLEGAL in Australia??? Didn’t this mass shooter know this??

I wasn’t sure on this and had to do some research. While not ā€œillegalā€, firearms are HEAVILY regulated. In fact, you must provide a ā€œgenuine reasonā€ for owning an allowed firearm and protection of your life (self-defense) is not valid in the Australian governments eyes.

When training shooting at targets at the range is one way of putting it. Train to be proficient AND NOT MISS TARGETS when shooting at ah…. when hunting game (rabbits, squirrels, deer elk, goats, sheep) out in the forest!

Unfortunately alot of countries dont recognize self defense as a legit reason. Hell, we have the 2A and some places here dont recognize it.

The one guy tried to take a shooter down. That’s cool atleast. Not sure if didnt know how to work a shotgun or worried that he would spend life in jail for killing the bad guy…..but he atleast took the gun away

So very true and unfortunate that self-defense takes a back seat as a legitimate reason. I had to wonder the same. If inexperience with operation was the reason or if they had a moment of clear thought in that ā€œif I shoot this guy, I will surely be arrested for attempted murderā€ and refrained. Either way, good on him for acting before anyone else was harmed.

And there’s NZ…love that last sentence.

Jacinda Ardern’s views on gun control are defined by her strong advocacy for strict regulations, which culminated in a rapid overhaul of New Zealand’s gun laws after the 2019 Christchurch mosque mass shooting. She fundamentally believes that gun ownership is a privilege, not a right, and that high-powered, military-style weapons have no place in civilian life in New Zealand.

Key aspects of her views and actions include:

  • Differentiation of Firearms: Ardern draws a sharp distinction between firearms used for legitimate purposes (farming, pest control, hunting) and high-powered weapons designed to kill people, such as AR-15s. She has emphasized that New Zealand can remain a food-producing nation that uses guns for practical purposes without needing access to military-style semi-automatics.

  • Rapid Legislative Action: In the wake of the Christchurch attack, Ardern’s government announced a ban on all military-style semi-automatic weapons and assault rifles within six days, with the new law passing almost unanimously in parliament less than a month later.

  • Government Buy-back Scheme: To facilitate the ban, her government instituted a mandatory buy-back scheme to compensate owners for their now-banned weapons, successfully removing thousands of firearms from circulation.

  • International Stance: Ardern has expressed bewilderment at the lack of gun control in other countries, particularly the United States, and has shared New Zealand’s experience in implementing gun reform with international leaders like President Joe Biden. She sees New Zealand’s response as a model for how a nation can act in the ā€œnational interestā€ to improve public safety.

  • Focus on People over Objects: While implementing new laws, she acknowledged concerns from legitimate gun owners and emphasized that the laws were not directed at them but rather at ensuring such a tragedy would not happen again. The government has continued to develop stronger licensing rules and a comprehensive firearms registry to track legally held weapons.

In sum, Jacinda Ardern’s gun views are pragmatic and centered on public safety, leading to some of the strictest gun control laws in New Zealand’s history.
