US Air Force basic training - June 1976.
M-16 qualification. I was 17 years old.
Yep. M-16 sure was great shooting out at the range during my time in the USAF 1972-1976.
I remember Harlan Ky well I used to deliver to the WAL- MART store As a WaMart driver there In late nineties and early 2000 I hated pulling up the mountain there because of the coal dust on the road.

I was 49.
I’ve since gained 3 Sigs and an AR. Had I known makin noise at the range was such a great stress reliver I would not have waited so long.
I’m pleased to see that!!! Hope a LOT of ppl get this sort of experience. Pretty sure once upon a time in our country it wasn’t actually optional if you wished to eat & defend family. Thx for that share!
Too lazy to google it —< was that a tube magazine .22? Curious just bc I fired a tube nag .22 as a kid which make/model I don’t have a clue but it was fun. 50 rounds def under $0.50 then
.
You’re very kind thank you ![]()
And, you just made me realize I discounted the Daisy air rifle that ended up with a scope
. Boy oh boy.
Maybe we should add best shots before being age 18?
I’ll state mine regardless:
brought my single shot 12 ga home to Ohio after an uncle in Ky gave it to me. (transport/transfer were not issues). Was day before Thanksgiving around 1980 or so. My brother in law went out the back field with me for rabbit. Scared one up. The first tumble it took was at 80 yards, after my bro-in-law said, “too far don’t.”! Blam! Bunny down. 2nd time firing a shotgun, first time hunting and firing at a live moving target, and at a further distance than what the average hunter with experience.
K now my dang arm is near worn out from patting myself on the back!!! ![]()

No shots posted after you were age 18 please we don’t want a fiction library about real or fabricated military service etc lolol.
K now ya all take care & God bless!
at the family farm in NY, the REMINGTON 572 22 at 6 or 7 years.
First was a 1 pump Daisy at about 10 years old.
First real gun, Sears 16 ga. single shot for $28.00.
14 years old.
Still own it, and I’m not telling how long I’ve had it. ![]()
Still favorite though, M-79 grenade launcher.
Does pressing a butterfly trigger with your thumbs rate a new thread?
My Dad took me on my first hunt at age 8. Mooresville Ms. Squirrel hunting with his old single shot .22. Shot 2 squirrels that day but the best part was being in the woods with my Dad
Other than my arsenal of Mattel cap guns, the first gun I pulled the trigger on was my dad’s 12 ga.
pump shotgun. I was around 12 and it about put me on my posterior, but it was a total rush. This was in the fall of '64 in central Indiana.
My first trigger pulled was two years ago when I finally let my brother talk me into learning to shoot. He picked out a 38 Special (pink) for my first gun. Big mistake.I took it to my training class and shot it for the first time. Two rounds and I came home and traded it for a
Ruger LCP II. Lesson learned. Never buy a gun without trying it first. 6 guns later my edc is a. Glock 43X
Yep. I rented a room from a lady and her brother bought her a 38 air-weight. I went to an indoor range with her and she flinched so bad she shot the floor a few feet below the target. We rented a steel frame 38 and it soaked up a lot more recoil and she did much better.
Always best to try before you buy.
My first shot was with my grandfather also. I was 10 or 12 years old. He told me what I needed to know. Loaded a round in his 30 odd 6 rifle. Gave it to me, then told me to take aim off his back deck in Forks, Washington. Then left me to go take a crap. He was yelling at me through bathroom window to aim in on the tin can and take the shot. Which I did and landed on my ass. He was laughing his ass off. Good times! I miss him. What a great guy he was. As a military man, he must be rolling in his grave with the crap going on now.

M-16, Ft. Knox, KY, 19. Basic training was the first time I even held a firearm.
