@Anne14, @Marc63 welcome to the family and glad ya’ll are here.
Hello and welcome @Anne14
Putting that information “online” is just asking for trouble as this guy found out. Considering the laughable “justice system”, the attack on gun owners in general and online predators, whack jobs sitting in mom’s basement just looking for a score, that was foolish, irresponsible and could have also gotten others hurt or killed in the area. What I have is not “showcased” and only shared with a precious few close friends of like mind. As a fire arms instructor I’ve learned to keep pretty a low profile and have encouraged those in my classes to use discretion. I hope this dude learned a life long lesson…P.S. criminals and thugs don’t bother with conceal carry classes, take their certificates of completion to the sheriff’s office, go through finger printing, picture taking, extensive forms to fill out before they go on rampages, they look for marks…I know right?!
Another factor involving so-called “social media,” and posting photos of your firearms, is the federal
gun police monitors these sites.
We’ve learned a lot lately about the unethical and illegal seizure of private property, by federal officers acting under color of authority. Our federal “intelligence” community no doubt has computer algorithms which monitors social media and various forums. If you trust the federal government, go ahead and post them. I subscribe to Facebook, only to stay in touch with far-flung relatives. I’m not anti-government having worked in local government my entire adult life as a city police officer, but I am anti abusive government.
I personally believe a good approach is to not advertise. I prefer not to talk about my weapons or that I carry except with close friends and family, and of course folks at the range. However, it is always sad to realize that while we all should feel free to do so in public, we know the criminal element is always out there somewhere, whether it’s someone overhearing a conversation, or online in a wider audience.
While I think he should of course be free to make that choice, he should definitely not be disallowed to advertise if he wants to. The press and politicians would love to grab a hold of that and blame the defender saying “well how irresponsible he is for causing this crime”, because he attracted criminals by posting online. No. The criminals committed the criminal act. I know, basic stuff right? Good thing he’s in Florida. Up here in the NE he’d probably be brought up on charges. He was ready for the unexpected and unlikely event, and didn’t hesitate. Good job! I love how the 3rd accomplice is facing 2 counts of murder!
Denise is absolutely correct. We actually do not have a “justice” system, we have a “legal” system. It’s got nothing to do with justice.
And we’ve had an increasingly dumbed down “justice system” since 1993 when it was dumbed down by Slick Willy by firing all 93 U.S. attorney’s and replacing them with “liberals”…what we have now is a sick joke, which is repeated night after night on Albuquerque “news” and no doubt most large city “news” stations. IF anyone watched the installation of the latest “supreme court judge” … when asked to describe what a woman is, she couldn’t do it…if you watched that “installation” you might know our doom is near. P.S. and that doesn’t even cover the murders of almost 86 men, women and children at Waco (the “news” of course contended “they had it coming” and cheered the 51 day tortures and murders of most of them in a firey nightmare) presided over by then “President” William Jefferson Clinton in '93.
I share nothing regarding weapons , neither online or with neighbors or friends. I will talk guns but not current specifics.
Welcome to the community David1397, Anne14, Marc63, Brian501, as you can see already there’s great members and lots of great topics to discuss, learn, and participate. Enjoy, don’t be shy, and stay active! Be safe.
Never would even think of posting my safe closed or open
Not a good idea to advertise what you have in your home (guns or anything else) Would anyone list the jewelry and personal possessions on social media. As I have been barred from face book (don’t ask me why, I don’t know and they won’t tell me) As I have no social media accounts (except for this one) I don’t bother to waste my time reading inane pratter. USCCA seems to have a more aware following who aren’t afraid to speak they’re mind. I enjoy and enlightened by most of the posts I read.
Agree strongly about shooting IDPA - I have shot in over 100 matches. Not much I have not seen or done with a pistol. Especially good training for clearing malfunctions - Quick, and More. And learn just how fast you Can shoot-on center at each distance. Even shot some Night Matches. With my Carry Gun. NOW I don’t even have to “THINK” about what to do(Draw, Aim, etc) - “It just happens”- Really Fast. I call it “Unconscious Competence”.
Look up IDPA - Matches held all over the US and World. You do not have to be Good. And you will be among Friends - Good Responsible Gun Owners.
I never share anything about my weapons on social media. I won’t even put a NRA sticker on my vehicle. Even the NRA decal is nitice that i may have something that a theif would want.
