Tactics used by criminals to be on guard agains, set you up or used to approach you

:joy: Good one. Almost thought you were serious there for a minute.

There are absolutely evil, barely human people walking free on our streets.

Be Alert. The world needs more lerts.

If you don’t act like prey you won’t be treated like prey.
Stay alert, act alert, look alert. There is something about an air of confidence that will discourage a lot of predators. Not all, but many

I was on my guard, head on a swivel walking into a shopping center. I was well aware of my surroundings, yet I was still shark bumped by surprise.
I was checking my 6 as I walked in the front door of the shopping center when the predator came at me from 3 o’clock, he was already inside the shopping center in a blind spot behind the doors.
He had me. He was a huge guy. I was lucky that day. I screamed “back up!” He backed up as I kept moving away too.
I reported him to the shopping vent and they called the cops and the guy moved on.
I still can’t believe that I got caught like that.
The entry door and windows are blocked with advertisements and you can’t see inside the entrance area till you’re inside. The predator new this and used it to his advantage. This happened in broad daylight. It messed me up for a while.

That is very easy to believe.

It is literally impossible to live an even semi normal life and guarantee nobody can ever surprise you or get the drop on you. It is not possible to go places, to be in public, to go to a store, etc, and never ever be in a position where somebody can get close/surprise.

That’s just the way it is.

You noticing by looking after going through that doorway/threshold is still very good, it sounds like you did it all perfectly. It was just…real world situations happen. I mean, what else could you have done? Just said no I won’t go to a shopping center because somebody might get close to me? Gotta be able to live your life with some semblance of normalcy,eh?

I love this! Most people are afraid to get LOUD and it is exactly the thing to do. You want to draw attention to yourself and it is the last thing perps want.

Good Afternoon from the West Coast - Fresno, California. I have worked as a career prosecutor now in year 39 - as both a permanent employee and now as a retired annuitant for almost 10 years. Based on my experience in terms of prosecuting major narcotics, criminal street gangs, homicides and then supervising those that do, and now crime charging and have read 10s of thousands of crime reports - there is usually some sort of relationship between the perpetrator and the victim. That applied to dope cases - seller and buyers and undercover officers, gangs for sure - rival gangs, turf wars, etc, and homicide where the victim and perp crossed paths in life. So the real question is how to avoid being a victim. Avoid situations where you could be a victim. If you are truly in a place where you have to be and you believe a perp is going to encounter you - avoid the guy. Cross the street for instance if the person is oncoming. That being said you need to keep your mind set when in situations where you could encounter an aggressor - at least in the yellow mode of extreme caution and the red mode if there is truly a threat. If you have no other alternative, find cover, take cover, warn the person to get the F out of there, and then you better be sure the person is going to kill you or cause GBI before you think about discharging a firearm. keep the person at bay and avoid. Doing range practice we did drills where a person wielded the rubber training knife and the shooter was positioned to shoot at the target. The knife perp could cover 10 yards easily before the shooter could remove the firearm from the holster and shoot at the target down range. Obviously rubber knife perp was coming from the side and up range from the target area. Lesson, avoid perps and keep them at bay.

I was telling my son the other day, “I don’t have an obligation to be polite to anyone, I chose which set of manners I use…”

Dont let strangers approach you at all. Keep arms length away. Car doors locked all time

Good ones, Blacky. I shocked myself the other day at the grocery store. I’d left my cloth bag in a broken cart, and as I was using the quick check, I remembered that. Leaving my open credit card case on the checkout table, I walked 15 feet out the door and the bag was gone. As I walked back in, I realized my very large mistake. Luckily, even though the bag was gone, my ID and case were right where I left them. The clerk gave me a quick eye, having seen this transpire in about 10 seconds, and I could tell I blushed crimson. That will NOT happen to me again.

OK, adding to the list, don’t flash a wad of cash in your pocket/hand or wallet. I separate what I think I’ll need to spend in town from my money clip and pull only that out of my pocket at the store.

An arms length is really close

The 27 ft. rule ain’t going to work you think, your lucky to get 6 ft. In check out line. What’s the right answer

Be aware of those around you. If you don’t want to be in line right next to somebody, remember there is something else on the shelf or in the cooler you need to go shop for, reset your position. Or remember you have to be somewhere else, drop your stuff and leave. Otherwise, they are going to be conversational distance away from you, in a line, that might be just over an arms length away (IME, most lines are still at an arms length and not closer with strangers)

My “answer” is that, in some places, at some times, through the normal course of living life, people are going to be somewhat close to you. That’s life in a society.

If one of them sets off your warning bells, move.

true but you cant attack someone twenty feet away cause he acts suspicious.

…you can’t attack someone 3 feet away because he acts suspicious…I’m not sure why you are talking about attacking anyone, let alone for merely acting suspicious

It’s all good stuff to think about, the list goes on. We each have our own thoughts about this ; keep er going. The odds are you’ll get hit by a car, run over by a train or hit by Lightning first.
PS: I also still have Snake oil for sail.

Yes I also have a few cans of dial tone left over from AT&T, I’m saving those incase I loose telephone service.
I will tell you a true funny story. We have a outdoor shooting rang and the mosquitoes are very bad. Very long story short to include 6/12 repellent brings back bad memories. I use powder on my leather bench rest bags, when I ran out I got a big container of baby powder and put some in a small garlic powder thingy that has a shaker. The powder stunk like garlic and I didn’t get bit by skeeters any more.

  • no joke “ garlic is a natural mosquito repellent “
Everyone at the club stayed away from me including the skeeters.
    Buzz buzz.
