It makes sense I assume there are way more responsibly armed Americans than LEO. Then again that is an assumption. It is not a statistic I could find.
The question is intervention at what cost. I know all would like to prevent any “innocent” from being harmed, but the statistics do not say what transpired after the occurance.
The police officers most likely faired much better with review boards and no civil proceedings.
Did the civilians come out as well, or were their lives ruined in the legal meat grinder? Always a thought we must consider before going full on John Wayne.
Welcome Robert.
Good question.
If it’s the defense of my self, family, or friends, I will always use the “Better to be judged by 12” rule. (I won’t be hesitating)
Defense of others is a tougher nut to crack.
I posted a thread where I witnessed what looked like a violent attack on a rather slight built woman. Ended up being an unruly large child going crazy on mom. Imagine the consequences of intervening in something like that.
I think John Wayne was about as responsibly armed American as one can get. Going full on John Wayne would be about as big a mistake as one could make. But that’s a topic for another topic. Oh, and welcome to the forum. Yes I agree. Don’t get involved unless you know exactly what you are getting involved in.
Well, duuh. CCW folks are on the scene when active shooters engage. Police are a phone call and 10 minutes or so away, best case.
There is a misconception that police are out on the streets patrolling and looking for crime to prevent. That’s not how they spend their days. In my experience, many shifts consisted of going from one family fight to the next, and/or writing an accident report that the involved persons could give to their auto insurance companies. Patrolling the city looking for potential active shooters or criminals wasn’t part of my work day.
That is what responsibly armed Americans are for. I don’t get out much but when I am, I am situationally aware, spreading the love and waiting for the SHTF.
Based on what I see at the range, I’m sure the police are more accurate shooters and less likely to hit innocent bystanders. But as was said above, the police are 10 minutes away.
Than who? There are some pretty good shooter at the range I go to. I live in a gun friendly area.
Two words: Daniel Penny
Thats why people need to train more
@ROBERT_C3 Welcome, the water is great!
From what I’ve seen here and in classes is in my opinion we are more versed in de-escalation. They (an attacker/criminal)uses a weapon as an advantage and we(reasonably armed civilian) treat it like the everyday tool we know it to be. I think that by expressing that we would rather not injure or kill someone over something trivial that we win more arguments than lose just in the delay it takes for the “bad guy” to think it through.
Interesting way to look at it. Welcome to the forum.
Welcome to the community!
Welcome to the community, interesting input.
Many LEOs don’t practise shooting any more than they have to.
That’s the prize winning statement!
Even if first responders are on scene, they are awaiting orders.
Unless I’m wrong and the ROE changed for active shooters!
Can we spell Uvalde?
No offense to law enforcement, but they’re the clean up crew.
Not like any movies or TV shows, when they show up just in the nick of time!
Not exactly true. Most officers training is paid for by your taxes. I’ve spent plenty of time with my local law enforcement on their range, handgun training is required annually. Beautiful facility but hardly used except for specialized teams! They are not on the range nearly as much as I am! Many seek training outside the force!
Me in the other hand, I’m on the range three days a week all year long no matter what kind of weather, rifle and handgun.
They may be more likely to deescalate, or more proficient on shoot or don’t shoot, but I’m more likely to hit the left eye at 25 yards than the average patrol officer!
Even now if challenged I could still hit my mark. My grandsons are always challenging grandpa. My car is sparkling clean and my wife and I don’t have to cook or clean anymore!
There’s a reason I exclusively use anatomically correct targets, there are no “X”’s on the human body.
Not perfect, but hostage went home with no holes!
Very little perspective, orange dots primary targets left eye kill shot, right hand disabling shot. Felt left eye was too close to victims head, decided on center headshot.
Rest of the rounds strong hand only controlled pairs and triple shots.
Welcome, Very true, in a fight hesitation can be a game changer for sure.
