Storing gun at gym

Does anyone store their gun at the gym locker while swimming, using the hot tub, sauna or showering?

I don’t go to a gym, so my answer is, of course, NO.

But, if I did go to a gym, the answer would still be NO. Too many random people around who would know I have a gun in my locker.

I have that problem sometimes. I train at Boxing/MMA gyms so my bag is “Usually” in my plain view all of the time, on the ring apron, in the shelves next to the mat… I can’t say I’m 100% comfortable with leaving Kimberly in my bag but it seems better than leaving her out in the Barbie Jeep.

If you could see me, it’s obvious the only time I go to the gym was in highschool…… :dotted_line_face::dotted_line_face::dotted_line_face:

That said, I have a console vault in my truck,… so if i did go, it would be locked up in that rather than inside the building…… doesn’t do much good if someone opens fire, but it’s better than some rando seeing it go in a locker and stealing it, or getting scared and calling a swat.

No. I don’t own that space and don’t know what their policy is should I get hurt and have to go to the hospital. I’d rather have it on me than in someone else’s locker.

KNOW YOUR LOCAL, STATE & FEDERAL LAWS THEREUNTO APPERTAINGING, LADIES & GENTLEMEN!
I would not do so unless it was in a backpack, nobody saw it or knows, it was locked (not with a company lock so as to enforce your right to expected privacy, you have the serial number and receipts for the firearm ready at home or in a safe box in case it gets stolen, and I’d use a biometric or numbered entry case inside of the backpack. If you use the gym’s lock, the question then becomes: Did you have a reasonable expectation of privacy? Only you can read the agreement(s) you signed … did they make search something to which you already agreed?

Unless they have the required signage (which in Texas would not apply to a licensed carrier but would apply to Constitutional carriers), I think it is reasonably prudent to have a weapon handy, especially given the numbers of random public shootings, especially around heightened political times!

I carry my USCCA or NRA backpacks everywhere I go mostly. My hope is to make potential perps aware of the fact that I am not to be trifled-with. some would say I was inciting; but I have seen otherwise. I would NOT use such a backpack if I was going to lock my weapon(s) in the locker, nor anything else that might make someone think they could obtain a free gun therein!

Remember the old Navy slogan: “Loose lips sink ships!” If you’re the type to talk publicly or in earshot of people about such private, dangerous issues as where your weapon is located, etc., please leave your gun out of there.

One man’s opinion; user’s mileage may vary. God’s speed, y’all!

I thank you all for your responses. It’s a difficult decision because I’ll be riding my e-bike to the gym. I think the last response about a biometric case makes the most sense for me.

Gyms are notoriously targeted by thrives inside and out, they hit both lockers, and cars.

If a gym supplies a pegboard for car keys, don’t use it. They get taken, cars get ransacked.

Lockers, get ransacked, mostly looking wallets, money, bank cards, other valuables, and the occasional gun.

One- put you key fob on a lanyard around your neck, don’t leave it anywhere out of your immediate control, of forget it out of sight anywhere. It will disappear into the wrong hands.

Carry Guns at Prohibited, or inconvenient places are a target for theft, many guns are stolen there.

Lock it in a secure portably gun safe secured to an immovable car part, out of sight, under a seat cabled to the seat track, or installed gun safe under your spare tire.

Your car interior is not secure, not the passenger compartment, nor the trunk sans high tech devices that can open your car like your key fob can.

Side windows are easily broken, thieves work quick, and don’t care about alarms, once in, they can access the trunk release in the glove box, and your car is completely breached.

Home burglars target cars at movie theaters, breaking into cars a family just exited.

Find your address, and go to your empty house. Knowing exactly where you will be the duration of a movie.

On your return home you discover all your valuables gone.

So, take your insurance ID card(s), registration, mail, or anything else with your address out of your car at the movies.

Thieves know how to pry locked comments with small hand tools to access what you think is secured, and they do not care about what they break, or rune.

So, think ahead, and prepare your gun security in your car out of sight fixed immovably in your car, not something they can grab, and dash with.

Just remember that they can also saw out a catalytic converter from your exhaust system fairly fast. So, park defensively too.

And, incase they have your destination parking lot under surveillance when you arrive and watch where you might stash your gun, stop a short of your destination, and stash it before you arrive.

For what little it is worth, lock your doors, and windows regardless.

Do not make it easy for those looking to loot an open car.

Thank you for those important reminders. I will be using my e-bike as my primary transportation, so leaving my gun in a vehicle is not an option. I’ll have to bring it inside with me wherever I go. Depending on how safe it is, I’ll have to rethink conceal carrying to and from the gym. Traveling 11 miles to and 11 miles back from the gym is more of a concern than being in the gym.
