Stopbox and Carry

I have a question for the community. I have recently purchased a Stopbox to carry a pistol in my truck. The stopbox uses a thumb bd four finger combination to open and close. The Stopbox comes with extra keys so the combination of fingers with the thumb can be changed. additionally, it has a place for an additional conventional type lock. MY question is: Is the Stopbox an acceptable means to carry a pistol in California?
Thank yyou

Welcome to the community!

If I didn’t have a concealed carry permit, it seems to me I could use it and be in compliance with laws concerning transport of unloaded and locked firearms in a locked box.

Do you have a CCW permit?

Yes, a StopBox is approved in California if it’s on the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) roster of approved firearm safety devices. You can request an exemption from the Firearm Safety Device requirement by providing a receipt for the lock box and an affidavit.
Explanation
The StopBox is a TSA-compliant locked container that can be used to store firearms. Nearly all handgun safes sold in the United States are advertised as meeting California Firearms Safety Device Standards.
California law requires that firearms are securely stored when they are not in the immediate control of the person possessing them. This law will go into effect on January 1, 2026.
California recommends that guns are stored safely, unloaded when not in use, and in a locked container with a state-approved locking device. The ammunition should be kept separate from the weapon.

I have bought 2. I keep 1 in each of my vehicles. I use cable the to secure it to the rear bottom of the passenger side seat. I can access from the driver seat if needed. I can also leave it in the vehicle if I go in places that post those “no gun” signs.

Johnny thank you! I was thinking about how to store in the truck; your idea is great and I am going to explore that with my Jeep! Thank you!!

@Terry233 Welcome to the community! I’d give the same input as already given by several here, just secure your safe safely and out of sight when left in the vehicle. Stay safe.

Last I looked it is not on the CA approved list.
You can search the list here:
Search for a Safety Device | State of California - Department of Justice - Office of the Attorney General

I do not see Stopbox as a compatible alternative from CA on this list either.

Stay safe.
