September Is National Preparedness Month 2023

Interesting. I’ve never had issues with stored pasta. We usually buy several boxes whenever it goes on sale and rotate through it. Though most of the boxes get used up within 6 months and the rest seldom sit in our pantry for more than a year before we use them.

Same here. Eneloop or other LSD rechargeables are good for frequently used or continuously used items, in general.

Alkaline I have long found Energizer better than the others.

The best for sitting on the shelf and staying good, or being left inside of electronics (especially with temperature swings) is lithium…and for common sizes like AA and AAA, the Energizer lithium (primary) batteries are IMO and IME easily the best and I don’t even know who number two would be.

What about for electronics that take coin batteries?

If I care about the thing I try to buy Energizer or Panasonic brand batteries from a brick and mortar store.

I have had hit and miss experiences with oddball batteries like coin and button cells, mostly for electronics including red dot sights, so I try to buy big name brand from physical stores to avoid counterfeights or old batteries or poorly stored batteries or IDK but there seems to be more risk of duds with the coin/button types

I almost forgot to add the Life Vac this year for all our new members.

Official Site of LifeVac | Choking Rescue Device that Saves Lives

It can be used on infants, children, teens, adults and elderly and even self-rescue. :+1:

UPDATE Just got this in the mail.

Tunnel to Towers Foundation and LifeVac Partner to Save Lives

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation and LifeVac are partnering to save lives and support the Foundation’s program recipients, America’s military and first responder families.

LifeVac is the only portable, non-invasive airway clearance device registered and fully regulated by the FDA as a Class II suction device to save a choking victim. LifeVac’s Airway Clearance Device is essential for anyone in a wheelchair, as standard choking protocols may not be an option.

LifeVac CEO Arthur Lih is honored to announce an ongoing donation of its Airway Clearance Devices to ensure Tunnel to Towers programs, including the Foundation’s smart home recipients, many of whom are in wheelchairs, will have this life-saving device inside their homes.

“It’s an honor to work with Tunnel to Towers to support those who have sacrificed so much for our country. For our nation’s most severely injured veterans and first responders where the Heimlich is not an option, this partnership will give them peace of mind knowing that in a choking emergency, they will be okay,” said Arthur Lih, Inventor, and CEO of LifeVac.

Choking is the fourth leading cause of unintentional injury death in the United States according to Injury Facts, and can be more prevalent in the elderly, children, and people with disabilities.

“LifeVac has a track record of saving hundreds of lives. I am so happy to partner with them to get these devices into the hands of our program recipients, especially our smart home recipients who need them the most,” said Tunnel to Towers Chairman and CEO Frank Siller.

Through this partnership, LifeVac is also supporting the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in its mission to do good in honor of America’s heroes. Tunnel to Towers delivers smart homes to our nation’s most catastrophically injured veterans and first responders and provides mortgage-free homes to fallen service members and first responders to support the families they leave behind. The Foundation also is working to eradicate veteran homelessness and ensure America Never Forgets 9/11.

LifeVac shoppers who use the code “T2T” at checkout will receive a $5 discount and for every LifeVac sold with that code, the company will make a $10 donation to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation that will support its programs.

Bulk orders for Veteran facilities, first responders, and schools, will also be able use the code “T2T” to receive a bulk discount. A donation to Tunnel to Towers will be made for each device purchased.

To purchase a LifeVac, go to lifevac.net and use coupon code “T2T” to receive the discount.

Just a thought. I am thinking of ordering 4 and a carry case. As a Corrections Officer I had training with Narcan and actually got to see how fast this can work. :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve been looking for a good source for Narcan given the stories of people lacing all sorts of things with drugs and having a kid in school where he could get exposed accidentally or intentionally. But I’d be a little bit leery of this Amazon source given the prevalence of counterfeit products on Amazon and the fact that the sold by account is brand new and has no feedback.

I’ve heard that some health departments and other sources in some communities provide a few doses for free or cheap.

Did y’all see the news story this morning? Some people of lower moral value found a loophole in the farming law and are selling gummies with THC. When they first came out in ‘17 some 300 kids were sent to the ER. So far this year over 3k kids have gone to the ER. Wait until they start putting fentanyl in them too.

PS: the farming bill is coming up for evaluation next year. Contact your congressman to get it closed.

I did not see that. What caused the kids to need a trip to the ER?

ate too many gummies :upside_down_face:

In my area two weeks is the norm for getting power back. Been through four or five hurricanes and the only time it was less than two weeks was when one of the power company employees lived across the road from me.
