After reading the article, it does say gel blaster and not replica gun. I wasn’t there, and don’t know what really transpired in the car. Weird that they would show replica guns in the video if it wasn’t pertinent to the article, but then again, there are gun haters out there in the media, and someone holding their fingers in a simulated gun position could “trigger” them.

Kids came by Yelled the taunt , fired at daughter, Daddy responded.
Not chased after them, after the incident was over, assaulted them and fired into their car.
Dad was wrong.
Kids were stupid.
Ships Happen.
Poor choices all around.

Agree that in this case the father’s actions were most likely unjustifiable and certainly unnecessary. The victims were inside the store and the attackers were elsewhere when the father arrived. At this point it was a job for the police to follow through on.
But if someone I didn’t know pulled up beside me while I was walking with my son in a clearly aggressive, targeted attack shooting something at us (that I could have no idea how dangerous it was or wasn’t), there is a high probability that I would not put my son at further risk by waiting to see if they were just playing a game or were trying to cause us serious bodily harm. I would likely be assuming the later.

Totally agree!
That goes back to defense training right? If you think you are in a situation where you or a loved one is facing a deadly threat you act. Now, we still might have to face consequences but that is a totally different situation. I’m with you on that one all the way.

In this context, the father sought out the threat. He did the exact opposite of avoid. He, with nobody to defend, sought out and confronted the teens, and then shot one of them.
He did not attempt to avoid in any way whatsoever. He did the literal exact opposite of avoiding a threat.

It doesn’t even matter what the toy gun looked like in this case, as he showed up long after the fact and sought out the teens, leaving his daughter behind to put her head down afraid of what might happen as her dad created a whole new confrontation

unfortunately yes, and a lot of them arnt “just squirt guns”. they are knock off gel blasters designed to look IDENTICAL to real life pistols.
not talking specifically about the incident in the article, as that was just out of line all the way around, but they do not all look like the one you posted…
you mean to tell me that at first glance without careful study and consideration you can tell this is a gel blaster and not an actual glock 19?

I think he never even thought about legality of using deadly weapon in such situation.
He was another angry person carrying a firearm without understanding the reason of having this firearm.

We seem to have two different discussions going.
One, the situation at hand that is linked. This one is clear, he goofed. He created a confrontation that should not have been.
The other is a general discussion over the possibility that a gel blaster could look like a real firearm. I see no reason to believe the one used in this case was, the article reads as though the girl knew it was a gel toy and told her dad as much, I suppose it’s possible it could have been a real look-alike that a teen had and threatened the dad with and then maybe the dad could have claimed self defense buuuuut it would be uphill at best, IF that were the case, since he sought out the confrontation from an apparent purpose of vengeance

Nor would I blame her if she decided to shoot someone who thought it would be funny if they tried to scare her by pretending to rape or assassinate her. As long as she did it as an act of imminent self defense and not an after the fact act of revenge.
