Security at your birthday party?

Rick Sapp talks about shootings at parties being in the news recently in his latest blog post:

Recent Party Tragedy Headlines

  • From CBS News: “4 killed in Halloween party shooting at Airbnb rental in wealthy California neighborhood.” (Another party-goer has since expired.)
  • From the Associated Press: “2 dead, 12 injured in shooting at college party in Texas.”
  • From the Tampa Bay Times : “Person shot and killed at Spring Hill house gathering.”

With all of the holiday parties that are quickly approaching…

How do you ensure everyone’s safety when you host a party?

That is a good question…

Phone down, head up, gun on.

I won’t be hosting any holiday parties this year.

I’m with @MikeBKY, not hosting parties. But then, I’m not much for parties anyway.

This goes back to my original question in a previous post:
Is it better to sling my AR-15 across my chest when selling big ticket items such as TV’s, printers, computers etc, out of my garage or just pack discreetly and hope I can draw quickly.
Wether it’s a party or yard sale, at your residence, the evil public has a great opportunity to rear its ugly head!
Your home is your castle no matter where you live. Protecting your castle is just as important as any celebrity or politician doing the same thing with armed guards and enhanced security measures that some of us can’t afford.
Personally in my opinion, pack discreetly and hope for the best. If you pack, you are considered the designated “driver!” NO drinking, NO phone (means heads up) and head on a swivel! It’s a brave new world and you must be the brave one!
Keeping it safe for family and friends does not mean quit partying!
The safety of your friends and family are all that matters.
This is probably the epitome of why we signed up with USCCA to begin with!
I suggest understanding the rules of engagement and what constitutes deadly force. Have a plan.

Everyone entering must be naked. Oh… That reminds me, I would like to invite everyone going to the KC Expo to a party I am throwing. Details to follow.

I’ll still be carrying. Don’t offer me Mexican, or pull my finger. :smiling_imp:

I don’t host many parties. When I do, the people I invite, are not only people I trust with a gun. They are the people I would trust to shoot MY guns at the range. Only my closest friends, and family.

That’s about who I would invite too.

Back to the topic guys…

We are hosting Thanksgiving…

People like to drink (Not me) but one thing I can assure is that while the kids are here all my staged guns will be put up in gun-safe and none will be in reach whatsoever.

My point was, if the bovine excrement hit the oscillating air movement device, I would gladly toss the key to my gun safe/cabinet to any adult I invited over, and tell them to pick what suits their fancy, and the ammo so in the right. Half the people there, probably showed up carrying a gun anyway.

We don’t host many parties, usually just another couple or two. I remain armed. If bad stuff really goes down, I send my wife to the safe and have everyone else follow her.

I host a get together every 4th of July at the beach, I’m always packing heavy, I setup a perimeter, I near the main exit and entrance, parked in the back lot with quick access past the main traffic. Know the back roads out of town, and more…

My perimeter is marked with stakes and caution tape. My setup is beside the fire lanes and I help the emergency services in directing people not to setup their sites in the emergency access lanes…
