Result of sending National Reciprocity letters to my elected representatives

here’s a response letter from one of my state’s Senators…

Dear [Jeffrey246]

Thank you for contacting me regarding S.65, the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. I always appreciate hearing from Tennesseans.
Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) introduced S.65 on January 9, 2025. This bill would allow a qualified individual to carry a concealed handgun into or possess a concealed handgun in another state that allows its residents to carry concealed firearms. I am an original cosponsor of this legislation.
The Second Amendment protects the right to keep and bear arms, and this cherished right stems from the rich history of our country’s founding. Law-abiding citizens who are gun owners should not be subjected to the unconstitutional abridgment of their rights or targeted for discrimination.
I appreciate your thoughtful comments. S.65 has been referred to the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, of which I am a member. As a cosponsor of S. 65, please be assured that I will support this legislation should it come before the full committee this year.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me.
Sincerely,
Marsha Blackburn
United States Senator

Duckworth and Durbin from Illinois had decidedly different responses as you might guess.

So, is U.S. Sen Bill Hegarty, R-TN; we got solid GOP representation out of TN.

As long as qualified like this, it’s not truly 2A compliant, for lack of a better term. I don’t understand why they resort to language that implies that states could or can have laws that are unconstitutional. If I still have to potentially go to court to fight an unconstitutional charge, it’s not particularly liberating.

And here is what you get from a Democrat Senator

Letters are good but where is the action? National Reciprocity needs to be a Trump executive order NOW until congress can get their act together.

Dear Mr. S

Thank you for contacting me regarding the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act (H.R. 38). I appreciate you taking the time to let me know your views on this important issue. You will be pleased to know that I am a cosponsor of this bill and strongly support it.

Like you, I am a strong advocate for our Second Amendment rights. I am also a gun owner. The Constitution guarantees our right to bear arms, and responsible gun ownership is an important part of the Wisconsin way of life.

As you may know, Representative Richard Hudson (NC-9) introduced H.R. 38 on January 3, 2025. This legislation would guarantee nationwide concealed carry reciprocity, which allows individuals with concealed carry permits in one state to exercise that right in other states.

H.R. 38 awaits further consideration by the House Committee on the Judiciary. Please be assured that I will track this issue closely and keep your thoughts and recommendations in mind as I continue to work to protect your Second Amendment rights.

Thank you again for sharing your views with me. Please continue to stay in touch, and do not hesitate to reach out with any additional questions, comments, or concerns.

On Wisconsin,

Bryan Steil
Representing Wisconsin’s 1st District

Executive orders are of dubious legal value. Even Obama restrained himself from using them to promote his anti 2A agenda because he knew they clearly violated the 2A.

It was Trump that first opened the flood gates on using executive action to regulate the 2A with his mandate for the ATF to ban bump stocks. Biden then used that precedent to impose multiple other 2A infractions through executive orders. It took the Supreme Court 6 years to begin to undo the damage done by Trump’s executive action.

The last thing I want is Trump using more executive actions to impact the 2A. Congress is supposed to pass laws for the executive branch to execute. Not the other way around. All of Trumps current executive actions are going to make it look like he is having a very successful first 100 days. Unfortunately he is very likely going to spend the next 990+ days bogged down in court trying to defend them all.

You are correct. Unfortunately, Congress often needs “stimulation” to enact laws where there is no direct financial benefit for themselves…

I disagree, I am tired of everybody trying to get their personal projects around Congress and around the lawmaking progress by putting more and more dictator-like authority in the office the President to just executive order everything all by themselves.

Or put another way…yes let’s start the precedent of reciprocity law being at the whim of executive order of the current president…what could go wrong?
