If you’re hitting paper like that at 25, your opponent has no chance!
Most encounters will be at bad breath distances!
I zeroed the red (green) dot sitting down, shooting a bit upward. Wonder if that’s why my standing up shots were mostly high.
Video tape on slo-mo yourself shooting and check your grip and finger pull. See if you can view yourself pulling the trigger with your hand or using your other fingers pulling back when you are pulling the trigger, or it will eliminate the fact of if you are or not.
I don’t think that has anything to do with it. I don’t think it would change that much if anything at all. It takes more energy to stand than sit therefore it should take longer to shoot standing. My guess is you are not waiting for your dot to drop before the next shot. Try shooting slower. My 2¢
How’s your support when sitting vs standing? When I shoot my precision rifle from a bench, it’s supported by a bipod and a rear bag. When I shoot standing up, there is obviously none of that, and as you know, muscles are constantly moving, even when we are at rest. Therefore, you supporting the rifle introduces a lot more movement. Bad breathing/trigger/ control and how you support the rifle reveal themselves quickly when standing. That’s why one of the comps I do has standing 200 and 300 yd portions.
No bipod, no bag, and no places near me to shoot at 100 yd, let alone 200 or 300.
That was just my example. What I meant is are you leaned on a bench that supports you while you support the rifle or something like that, or are you shooting sitting unsupported in the way you are whilst standing?
Sitting, using the bench as a rest.
Idk what your range is like, but is there something you can brace your support hand with while standing? If not, try as @Robert1246 suggested and try shooting slowly. If it were me, I’d try that and see if there is any change in the pattern. If there is, I would work on adjusting the support hand/arm to minimize the movement of the rifle, then do what @Todd30 suggested and analyze trigger hand movement. My thought process is that, under rapid fire, the support arm is bouncing, and to eliminate the possibility of that movement by bracing. If that didn’t correct the issue I’d look at the trigger hand for movement when pulling the trigger quickly.
Spent a little time working on my grip. Both targets somewhere between 7-10 yds. Around a medium pace fire rate.
Looks good. Which target is the first you shot at?
Top one first, idpa second. I was almost out of ammo for the day, so I figured I’d put up a fresh target to hit
I’ll get there
working on that rust. Have some adjustments for tomorrow ![]()
I dont believe this as much anymore. I had another pistol case recently and the instructor put black tape cocering the rear and front site. We had to rely on looking at out target and good trigger pulls. At 15 yards, no problem smacking the steel. After that he pulled the tape off and we had to shoot with the iron sights misaligned like pictured in your post. Still pinging steel consistently at 15. It was a really eye opening exercise.
Range day for me today. First Target iron sights 7 yd double taps. Kimber custom super Carry 45 ACP. 230 grain ball ammo. 50 rounds.
Second target 7 and 10 yd. Double and triple tap drills. Springfield hellcat 3 inch barrel Green Dot. 127 grain Blazer brass. Hundred rounds. Had my first failure to fire but after holding down range for a considerable amount of time I jacked the round out. Was a solid striker hit but no ignition so I don’t blame it on the hellcat. First failure to fire with this Blazer brass range ammo one out of 400 rounds.
Took my home-built Glock 19 to the range for a validation shoot. Shot like a dream.
Started at 25 yards, then 15 yards, then 7 yards.
50 rounds Winchester 9mm FMJ
Figured I would exercise my .40cal as well, at 7 yards.
24 rounds .40cal JHP
The rear sight is not centered despite best efforts with a rear sight pusher. Green laser already ordered to overcome that issue.
The White One
Went to the range this morning with @ShooterRick . Shot about one round a second, maybe a little quicker at about 6yds.
