Our Second Amendment

Dear Representative,
My question is why? Why is it taking so long for our second amendment rights to be solidified and protected from future assaults by anti-gun people, groups and rhetoric?
President Trump and the rest of my representatives, please tell me, why have you not done anything to secure my rights to travel interstate without fear while carrying my firearm? I realize there are some very important things happening right now, but the second amendment is one of the most important rights to be secured, not to forget the first amendment which is also under attack. I live in North Carolina, and I have spent the time and money to secure my concealed carry permit. I have no problem paying for my background check and even for a clerical fee but why am I paying for a ā€œpermitā€ for a right I am guaranteed under our constitution? My drivers license is not a protected right, and it costs me nothing compared to a concealed carry license, why? Further, if something happens to me and without spending the time and the money to get a concealed pistol permit for my wife, how does she carry my firearm home? Most women, like my wife do not wear clothing with belts to hold and support the weight of a gun. Will she be forced to break the law by putting it in her pocketbook or should she carry it in her hands?
Why do I have to choose between being able to defend myself and my family, especially when traveling into high crime areas like New York and New Jersey as well as most blue anti-gun states? Why am I forced to leave my firearm home, even though I am cleared by my concealed carry permit and background check, something I am not required to do for a drivers license? And in many states these driver licenses are freely given to non-citizens with very questionable backgrounds, but their driver licenses are ā€œacceptedā€ in all the states. Why am I forced to either leave my gun home or leave it unattended in a car because of restrictions in ā€œsensitiveā€ places, including in North Carolina. Either I am safe to have and carry a weapon, or I am not.
Maybe it is time to bring forth a new constitutional amendment that will protect and prevent any further assaults on this important and guaranteed right to bear arms. Constitutional carry should be restored in every state as well, and unreasonable restrictions like those in place in New York and other states should be removed.
I decided to write to all of you because of the most recent shooting of Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgram. Something must be done NOW! To reign in Politian’s, public venues and people that are promoting this antisemitism in our country. Or are we waiting like we did back in the 1930s, to act and fight another world war? Two wonderful, young and beautiful people murdered by a lunatic with a gun. I am enraged that he was able to carry his gun freely enough so that he could kill these people, openly on a sidewalk in Washington, DC. I have a concealed carry permit, but I could not legally have a gun on me in Washington, DC, something is wrong! Of course, the anti-gun laws in Washington, DC are working well, aren’t they? And of course, This idiot had no worry about any law he was breaking, was he! Gun laws are useless, just as any law is useless with a criminal. On October 7th, 2024, Israel learned the hard way why it is better to have an armed society than one without a means to protect itself. I wonder if this animal would have tried his act if he feared some person, a citizen, near him may have been armed and able to stop him. I wonder if the entire event could have been avoided or stopped without any loss of life or injury if a responsibly armed citizen was there. When are you lawmakers going to wake up? We are a gun nation since we started, and it has worked for us as well as against us, but it is who we are. Gun controls work for the criminal and against the victim, that is why gun laws are supported by the left and the liberals involved. As a citizen of this country, I ask and respectively demand that the Congress and President Trump act to correct these problems.
Sincerely Yours
John Scaglione

Welcome to the community. Good write-up. Why are there laws to keep us from being safe instead of laws that stop us from being safe. I am all for laws that encourage us to be more responsible with gun, not for laws that make us less.

Wordy, but OK. I’m seeing that lot of politicians won’t read anything that lengthy. Our rights are guaranteed by God, outlined in the Constitution. Our Government does not give us our rights, so the government cannot take them away! When you realize that, you have ground to stand on. They may try to take that ground, and some of us may be injured or lost in that fight, but in the end we SHALL STAND WITH THE CONSTITUTION. Defund the politicians who do not support the Constitution! The fundamental problem with our current form of gonvernment is that money plays a role, when it should not. Congressmen and Senators who sell out need to be pushed out. There is no room for them.

@John593 Welcome to the community, and thank you for sharing this letter. We should all copy this and start sending a copy to all Representatives throughout the States including the anti-gun States, and just flood them so they can hear us, because as we all know, many go deaf when we speak up :hear_no_evil_monkey: for our rights!

Our forefathers would be rolling in their graves if they saw what was being done. They wrote these amendments in such a way that if you take an oath of office to uphold the constitution, anything you say that implies any changes is automatically a violation of that oath. You cannot say I will uphold the 2nd Amendment, but we need to address who, what, where, why or how. If you imply that it needs amending, you’re by definition violating your oath to uphold it as written. But we need to define this or that you may say. I say if our forefathers were good with its existing wording, you are in violation of your oath to not agree it’s perfect as written. They just came off a war where we we up against, I believe, the most powerful army in the world. They knew any restrictions would weaken our ability to defend against a hostile army, so none were added or let me say, implied. Freedom carries inherent risks that our forefathers thought were acceptable in order to maintain our Republic.

I don’t think they even read short ones, I have contacted my congressman, Frank Lucas, and Senators Lankford and Mullin several times, specifically say I want a response, but rarely do. If I do it’s some standard, B.S. don’t answer the question type response.

Good morning to all, and thank you for the kind words. I will try and contribute more to this effort as I hope all of us will in preserving the 1st and 2nd amendments. PLEASE feel free to use my letter if you think it is that good. The more we bother our representatives the more they will have to start paying attention to this. Once again, Thank You all, John
