the docs had me dead at 21, then para-possibly quadriplegic by 35…good thing I didn’t listen, every time I do they try to poison me.
Still remember the time I’m getting a cat scan or something, laying in the tunnel, the tech in a closed up closet, and I hear “oops” over the microphone…machine stops, tech comes out and puts a lead filled bag on my not so privates…think I glowed for awhile after that, just glad my son came out alright, if a little on the huge side
Glad to see you do the homework and reap the rewards. Too many think “there’s a pill for that” and dismiss the small print and fast talk at the ends of the ads.
I discovered that Leviquin is extremely dangerous for me to take. I had nearly all of the side effects. Tendon crippling issues. But the worst was psychotic and paranoia. It made me certifiably crazy.
Prayers to you, Gary_H.
My Dad had bypass surgery after he went to the doctor after getting winded trying to start a gasoline lawn mower (one of those pull cord starter types). He was 65 at the time. I do remember him saying everything tasted like dirt to him, and it took about six months before I could give him a big hug again.
He made it through and so will you. He lived another 20 years before passing from a stroke.
I had my first triple bypass back in 1996. There was no heat attack. Two blockages had bypassed themselves. At the time the doctors told me the average on the bypass surgeries was to last about 14 years. No meds for these years. In 2012 something happened to my body and decided to go get checked out and they told me I had a heart attack. So I received my second thriple bypass was left with a 25 fraction or whatever it is called. With Meds this time. This past October something else happened and I started retaining water so now we have added the water pills and I am also down to a 15 on the heart function. I still do petty much what I want to with the exception of the back problem which has got worse in he past 8 months. Do not let them put you on amariron/amidrone that stuff will kill you, the heart doctor tried to kill me with this and would not tell me what was going on. I found out after loseing 34 pounds over almost two years could not sleep and could not keep food down. This was the second problem with this doctor, he put me on three different blood thinners and I was about to bleed to death. I changed doctors and found out what was going on. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE WHAT IS GOING ON WITH YOUR DOCTOR do not let them tell you they will not refere you to another doctor. Go to the emergency room with another hospital system and a whole new set of the doctors that come with that. It is your life, do not play the doctor games.
The meeting with the surgeon reminded me of Matthew 6:27:
“Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”
The surgeon said my coronary disease is advanced beyond any bypass repairs. The LAD artery has the most blockages - they are so numerous it’s basically impossible to count them. He has sent a recommendation to my cardiologist to go back in and stent one of the other arteries. He believes that will make me feel better, but does not see any long term good coming my way from bypass. He said I could probably shop around and find a surgeon that would do the surgery, but he does not recommend the surgery. The surgeon I saw is one of the most respected and highest rated in our area - many hundreds of 5 star reviews.
My wife is not taking the news very well, but I have always known we only have so much time on this earth, and none of us is getting out of here alive. Reality is I, nor any of us, are not promised tomorrow, but I could keep plugging along for another 20 years … only time will tell. BTW, I turned 65 this year, we will be celebrating our 34th wedding anniversary this weekend, and I’ve had a great life so far.
Edit: If and when, my son is inheriting all firearms, so wife will not be selling them for what she thinks they are worth!
I am also in the same boat, i have noone left in my life or family, my doctor had me do a chemical stress test. results 4 semi blocked arties the worst is in the back he said, changed my diet to nothing with a head, so that leaves veges, fruit. the problem is i am diabetic and i was diagnosed this week with Cancer for the 2nd time, i need a mri so they can see where it is. I have no one to take care of me and i still work monday- friday, i am 65 years young. open for ideas, Maury Kopman, [email protected], thank you all. i have been a member for 5 years now and i locked my guns in my safe ( i dont want to do something stupid).
Hey @Maurice10 and @Gary_H , come to the Expo and be amongst all your friends here! There will be lots of good company, distractions, and of course food! I feel ya on the special diet. I’ve been on the Keto thing for coming up on 3 years.
Gary, as you felt, I too was losing the battle on endurance during my walks. I ended up having quadruple bypass in 1996 and have had 2 stents since.
My suggestion is to do as your doctor requests!!! Lose weight if needed and eat right…
I am now down to 190 (was 256 lbs) and am now 71 yrs old. The older I get, the less I run but do bicycle some. Most nowadays, I am a mallwalker.
Keep up your regimine of daily exercise.

My wife just had triple bypass. She is one of the small percentage that statens had a bad effect on her. Her dr put her on a new medication called Repatha, injection twice a month, after just three injections, her cholesterol went from upper 200’s to 146, not cheap but we luckily have decent insurance . Might be worth a discussion with your doctor
April 2020 I had a bad heat burn, I felt fine, wife made me check it out and turns out I would have had a heart attack in days. i needed a quad by-pass 1 1/2 years ago. I worked out lots of pushups and ran. I also used to smoke. I have not Smoked in all this time since, Back to doing 100 push ups a day . Had to really push my right leg after due to vein loss but that went away. I feel great and am 65 going on 66. Even being a former Marine and Cop from Los Angeles Sheriffs department. I was nervous but I had to get it done even in the middle of 2020 and covid. I am glad I did. all my blood work is great and in line. I am adding all this to let you know if you need it get it do not put it off, while your heart is still strong. God will do the rest. Hope this helps

Had a quad by-pass almost 20 years ago and 1 stent since then. Followed recovery plan pretty weel and have been doing everything I always did, hunt/fish/dive etc. The one thing that was strange to me was after the surgery for a number of months doctors kept asking if I was depressed. I could not understand why, hell thanks to them I cheated death for awhile longer so how could I be depressed. I then learned that many people do have depression afterwards. I did not and a doctor finally said I can see it’s just not in your personality to be depressed. My advice is understand you will feel some different feelings after you wake up, smile, laugh, crack jokes, be happy you can.
adding this:
have family that visits you in recovery to bring something to write with, you won’t be able to talk and their first visit you might not even be able to open your eyes. It’s good to communicate even a little.
also my daughter and wife were very happy when they noticed the monitor ‘jump’ as they talked to me while I was still out. Made them feel better.
A few years ago I went for a stress test and a Catherization on a Wednesday . The doctor said I was lucky the surgeon was there to talk to me. The surgeon walked in and said how about Monday morning for your surgery. I had a five bypass. I put it in Gods hand as soon as I was told about it and didn’t worry about it. After surgery I was in ICU for overnight and they said they never seen anyone recover that fast. I’m 82 and can still ride a bicycle 20 miles.
