Trump Transition Signals Focus on Deportations, as Miller Assumes Influence
President-elect Donald J. Trump is signaling with his staffing decisions his intention to carry out a campaign promise of widespread deportations of undocumented immigrants and tightening of measures that allow some of them to stay in the country legally.
Stephen Miller, an immigration hard-liner and adviser to Mr. Trump, is taking over policy planning for the transition and is expected to be named deputy chief of staff in his administration, people briefed on the matter said on Monday.

Trump Picks Kristi Noem to Be Homeland Security Secretary

President-elect Donald Trump has chosen South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem to lead the Department of Homeland Security, according to people familiar with the matter, elevating a loyalist who was once considered a possible running mate to flesh out the team that will oversee his immigration agenda.
Noem will join Tom Homan, an anti-illegal immigration hard-liner who will serve as Trump’s “border czar,” and Stephen Miller, who will be his deputy chief of staff for policy, in implementing Trump’s campaign trail promises to crack down on illegal border crossings and conduct the largest mass deportation operation in U.S. history.
A Trump transition spokeswoman and a spokesman for Noem didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment. CNN earlier reported that Trump had chosen Noem. Trump has already made several other picks for key positions in his administration.
If confirmed, Noem would oversee an agency with a wide-ranging mission. The Department is responsible for natural disasters, cybersecurity and transportation security in addition to its central role in immigration enforcement.

Trump picks Mike Huckabee as US ambassador to Israel
President-elect Trump announced Tuesday he will nominate former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) to serve as ambassador to Israel, a major diplomatic role that will take on added importance amid heightened tensions in the Middle East.
“Mike has been a great public servant, Governor, and Leader in Faith for many years,” Trump said in a statement. “He loves Israel, and the people of Israel, and likewise, the people of Israel love him. Mike will work tirelessly to bring about Peace in the Middle East!”
