New Springfield firearm: Hellcat

I don’t shoot Hellcat, but hopefully we will be able to isolate your problem and find the fix for it.

  • How many failures have you experienced with this ammo?
  • does it happen with first or last bullet in magazine?
  • does it happen with all magazines?

Any chance of picture with that stuck round?

Thanks for the interest!

It will be awhile before I get it back to the range so no pictures soon.

It’s kind of random. one or two per 13 round mag and normally 4 or 5 shots in.

Going to try hand ejecting to see if I can duplicate the problem.

Switching back to the XDS for awhile.

BTW still on the first few hundred rounds on the gun and using factory 13 round mags.

No rush. Try to take a picture once you see the malfunction.
Perhaps the easiest fix would to to use different ammo. Hard to blame firearm if you find other ammo working good.

The HSTs have a slightly wider mouth and sharper edge than some other HP ammo. This might cause a little extra friction when feeding on firearms with a less angled feed ramp. Don’t know if this is an issue for the hellcat? But I have used HSTs in several different pistols without any issues.

Thanks. We are on the same page. I like the HST in .45 but the 9mm is giving me problems in the Hellcat,

The shape of the nose is the first thing that came to mind.

Fortunately I’ve had no issues with HST in my 9s or .45 but could see the mouth shape as a potential issue with some designs.

The only issue I have ever had with feed ramp hang ups was with an LCP 2. It has a very poorly designed feed ramp that is basically vertical where the bullet hits it. But mine had other issues as well and Ruger replaced pretty much everything but the frame and now it works fine even though the new barrel looks pretty much the same. Interestingly the new LCP Max uses a similar (if not the same feed ramp design) but they changed the magazine to angle the bullet higher so it hits a more angled part of the feed ramp. I suspect I was not the only one having issues with the old design.
