" But years ago they said the Titanic was unsinkable"

Just for my own personal curiosity I looked up the UNSINKABLE Titanic’s factoids:
The Titanic had 20 lifeboats , 2 wooden cutters, 14 standard wooden lifeboats, and 4 collapsible canvas lifeboats…enough for 52% of the Crew and Guests… 1500 Souls died out of 2,200
disgraceful.
It was designed to carry (64) enough for everybody on board but that idea was nixed because it would disrupt the views for the elites…

But!..wait for it!.. It DID carry 3500 lifebelts and 48 life rings so making it easier to pick up the dead POPSICLES Bobbing in the water later on…

Other well known Elite lies:

  1. “I’m NOT a crook”
  2. I did not have sexual relations w/ that woman
  3. I don’t talk to my son about his business dealings
  4. I never said that! (Every politician EVER!)
  5. The F-35 CAN’T BE HACKED!

I acknowledge and respect your sons experience with the F-35 systems. I’m certainly no expert on computer systems and can only go by what I read in the promotion campaign for the F-35. It has been said in those campaigns that the F-35 is the most connected war plane in the world. Connected to ground forces, connected to satellite forces, connected to cell phone forces, etc. etc. While the F-35’s OS may not be open to hacking the other connected systems are very much open to hacking. The Apple OS has been hacked and the Android OS has been hacked multiple times. And they are prevalent - that is connected - I’m sure with the F-35’s system. Ask your son about the other systems connected to the F-35 and their vulnerability .

As the old-saying goes, there’s more than one way to skin a cat.

Agree 100%. Yet, history repeats. With the most advanced military in the world - also the most woke - America could not defeat the Taliban out-right. Politics aside, we failed.

I’m all for utilizing technology. I just think it is a strategic and tactical error to be completely dependent on it.

That’s all I’m saying. In general I like technology but it’s not God - yet. There may be a good reason why we haven’t found intelligent life in our galaxy.

No offense to your friend but I suspect that is what the vast majority of military strategists said whose nations/empires boldly marched off to war only to be defeated. I am sure most Russian strategists were sure they could easily beat Ukraine. Even most Western military strategists seemed to think the Russians would quickly win. The Persians also believed that when they sent their massive army to defeat Alexander’s tiny by comparison invasion force. History is full of defeated armies that should have easily won.

Our military is the best in the world but it is stretched thin policing and protecting much of the world and has a ton of readiness issues, including the F-35 of which only about 50% are combat ready at any given time due to various repair and maintenance issues. From all accounts I have read we are not well prepared for drawn out conflicts especially on multiple fronts. And that was before we drained our stockpiles sending munitions to Ukraine.

The U.S. can easily win battles that it can plan ahead and prepare for. But fending off surprise attacks, maintaining conflicting alliances and taking and controlling territories is a much harder thing to do. We are still dealing with the long term blowback from our attempted actions going back to WW1 and 2 as well as our more recent military endeavors. Not to mention that no one wins WW3 once the nukes start flying. Despite the strategists out there who think there is a winnable scenario if they can just get a good first strike in before the other side notices. That level of confidence scares the crap out of me.

I do tend to have strong opinions based on the information I come across. Though in my defense I don’t waste time reading fluffy opinion pieces and I do look for both sides of the story before forming my opinions. I follow the writings of people considered to be experts in the field as well as the reports published by the Pentagon. The experts don’t always agree but there are worrying trends that one would expect to see when an Empire reaches the limits of its economic and military capabilities.

@Enzo_T & @Shamrock, both of you are well-respected here and provide valuable information, insight and opinion. You both provided reasonable opinion here, too, with valid reasons for your viewpoints. One of you is right, I just hope we do not find out which of you that is.

I believe there is truth to both our points. I think how those points play out and the results that come from them will depend largely on the conflicts we choose or are forced to become involved in in the future and how our military and political leaders choose to act.

I see what you did there

Amen

you notice that when the leaders get involved. the adversary wins the war Vietnam, Afghanistan and other battles in history.

I think victory in all wars is fleeting. It may last a year or it may last a thousand but eventually the empires that did the conquering collapse usually through a combination of factors including over expansion, economic decline, corruption and environmental changes. Then the people who were being ruled rise up to rule themselves or voluntarily or involuntarily fall under the rule of another state.

Afghanistan has long been known as the place where empires go to die. Its people and the terrain don’t bend well to the rule of outsiders. The withdrawal was a disaster but the result was going to happen eventually. I’d like to think the people here in the U.S. would prove to be just as resistant to foreign control. Hopefully the U.S. government can clean up its act so we don’t have to find out.
