Ltc permit

I wanted to see if anyone can help me im new on here, anyway I tired 2 times in the last 3 years to get my license to carry and have been turned down. I have been locked up but never convicted of anything and that happened back in 2011. I had 2 references that I wrote down and 1 if a Philadelphia cop but they still denied me, is there anything that I can do to obtain my LTC or do I have to get my record expunged before I try again I just need help with information because I do own a couple handguns legally but I can not take them out the house without the worry of getting stopped and locked up for not having my license

I would hire an attorney to see if there was someone who shared your name, and see if that is why you are being denied.

Do you live in a shall issue state or a may issue state?

I would talk to your county sheriff’s LTC investigator if you can and ask him. If he approves you walk it up the chain.

I would second @Zavier_D’s suggestion of talking with an attorney. If you’re a USCCA Member, you can check our attorney list to find an attorney who is Second Amendment friendly in your area. (This is not a situation where your membership would be able to assist you with the legal costs as it is not a self-defense incident.)

I would also check our reciprocity map to see all the laws (and links to the state resources) for your state:
https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/resources/ccw_reciprocity_map/

One thing to keep in mind, if you can legally own the firearms you can legally transport them to and from the range/gunsmith. You will have to follow the guidelines set forth by the state to transport them. Those guidelines are outlined on the map above as well.

Please let us know how it goes! And if we can answer any other questions for you. Stay safe, @Olavo!

Welcome to the Community @Olavo! What state are you in? that can play a huge part in the permitting process. If you are in PA, then the odds are good that you get a permit. If in the neighboring states of DE, MD, NJ or NY getting a permit is more difficult. Each is a “may issue” state which more appropriately translates to a “more likely than not will not issue” state.
If you are in a shall issue state, you might want to get a copy of your criminal record from the FBI. Follow this link to find out how. https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/identity-history-summary-checks

I’m a Philadelphia native. I usually get back about once a year but not sure what 2020 has in store yet.
I would recommend that you check out Criminal Record Clearing at Criminal Record Clearing - Community Legal Services for information on expungements in Philly. It looks like they have resources that may be helpful.
