BOOM!

Screen grab from a video, the ONE frame that has the muzzle flash almost entirely in the break! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::smiling_face_with_sunglasses::smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Half a frame too late to catch the bullet in transit. :man_shrugging:

Springfield Armory XD-M Elite 9mm 3.8" compact. Discontinued and deeply discounted at Sportsman’s Warehouse for $298. Did I need it? No. Did I want it? Absolutely. She’s a surprisingly chonky lady. Picked up a small and large backstrap and two extra magazines.

Also recently scored a Colt M1911AI US Army .45 ACP via auction for cheap. Well loved, clean, just loose enough, accurate AF, and eats. Grip laser works perfectly, too. She ain’t pretty, but she certainly has character and I think I  her.

Cant argue with a good 1911. 2 world war champion (although not as widely used but still there)

Also cant argue about an AK. One rifle i need to get yet.

Sure.

The grip laser blocks part of the serial number, but best I can tell it’s a 1944-45 production. Highly unlikely it’s older. Father and son auctioning off part of the father’s collection. The father is retired law enforcement and had used this as his service piece in the early 90’s. Took it to the range a lot right up until last year. Starting bid was $380 and I got it for $420 with the grip, laser, charger for the laser, two newish but well used magazines, and a hard case. I went for the Swedish Mausers (my significant other’s son is a collector) but came home with this. Fires flawlessly; seriously smooth like butter and the weight and balance make the recoil totally manageable for me. My gunsmith says it’s a steal.

That gun was only worth about $25 when it was brand new. You got ripped off!

Just kidding, not telling you what to do, but finding more era appropriate grips for it would be really cool :+1:

Just a couple decades of inflation, eh?

Yes, more authentic grips would be awesome! For now, I’m going to be practicing with it for a CCW endorsement and the current Hogue grips are really comfortable. I like that she was well-loved and used and not just shelved somewhere collecting dust.

All good. Without removing the laser, we’re pretty sure what we can see of the serial number puts it in 1944-45. Per my smith, the slide doesn’t appear to be the original. No clue about the barrel since I haven’t taken it down myself and I’m told they can be tricky. I’ll ask when I see my smith tomorrow. At some point, I’ll give her a little restorative love. For now, I’m training with her since she’s the only .45 I own. 1911’s and large calibers in general still sort of scare the beshit out of me, but I’m learning and am really happy I went for this gun.

No reason to be scared, it’s actually a very enjoyable pistol to shoot.
Now, if you’re looking at a 50 A&E pistol, that will not be enjoyable

I could see you now putting it into a custom made cowboy holster and wearing it on the ranch while just hanging out with a cigar and wine. :+1: :slightly_smiling_face:

I don’t know about that, I shot my buddies.50AE desert Eagle one handed while shooting my little .25 Walther in my off hand!

Even managed to hit the dirt with all 10 rounds!

Jerry Miculek I am not! But it was a good laugh anyway!

Yeah, no way I would’ve tried to reverse that grip!

:grimacing: That hurts just watching it!

I have seen a lot of “recoil refires” (i.e., negligent discharges) with the Desert Eagle. If you are going to shoot one, I recommend only one round in the mag at a time until you can shoot safely.
