Sorry @Bill168 , I should have started out my question “I know what a 30SC is BUT how do you like it?”.

@Bill168 … it doesn’t answer my question.
I know differences… I’m curious why @MsDigital chose this caliber.

Yeah, I was just checking on the caliber difference and recoil.

Interesting info though.

The best info about this caliber was provided by @MikeBKY:

I absolutely love it. It’s light, it’s compact the ez is the longer barrel of the two, smooth shooting and all around great gun. I also have the other m&p shield plus 30 SC. Had two of my old shipmates take that one for a spin and they really liked it as well. They had the smaller of the two and said they didn’t feel like the gun was too small and was also very smooth shooting.

That’s great to hear.
Have you thought of getting the 30SC in a 1911?

I did the research and I liked having such a slender and light weight gun since I wear form fitted clothes and dresses. It makes my other holsters easier to stay where intended. I have a thigh holster for when I wear a dress since a bra holster is not usually an option, you gotta wear a bra to use that so thigh holster is the way to go. I don’t look like I have something between my legs when I’m walking and it doesn’t get in the way or start to slip down. I know there are other guns that may offer the same thing, but the biggest reason is cause I found both guns on sale and one of them during S&W mail in rebate.

but why this caliber. M&P Shield EZ comes with many calibers, having the same dimensions.
Did you want this caliber in purpose?
I’m curious, because 30SC is not a popular caliber yet.

I have looked into it, but for a 1911 imma stick to a 9mm. Am on the look out for a Wilson Combat 1911 currently. I prefer to stick to 9mm but that’s is also why I chose the 30SC for my EDC. I knew it would be something I could handle better. 1911s I think deserve a bigger sized ammo of a 9mm or .45 and for no particular reason.

I’m curious what you think about the recoil of the 30SC versus 9mm in similarly sized pistols if you have had the chance to try them side by side? I’ve read several reviews that said the 9mm and 30SC recoil are actually pretty similar.

30SC seems like a ballistically better option than .380 but still small enough to fit in a .380 sized pocket pistol. But if the recoil is closer to 9mm then I think I’ll stick with my .380 pocket pistol. .380 recoil from a micro sized pocket pistol is about as snappy as I’m willing to deal with.

So I’ve shot a p365 sas, xds, hellcat, S&W 1911s & Beretta in 9mm

The 30SC recoil on a 100 gr round for both fmj and jhp are minimal and much easier to handle in my opinion.

The Beretta 9mm that was the Navy pistol I never liked and i never looked forward to having to shoot it or carry it. I was an expert marksman in pistol and rifle but the recoil on that gun probably is one of the reasons I wanted to try something a little smaller but didn’t want to do the .380

They are so close to size but it really does make a difference. I have both m&p shields and both have their strong points. I do prefer the ez but when I need a small edc it’s the plus I will carry.

I’ve seen some people talk down on the EZ and say that it is crap but I prefer it to the plus. The longer barrel handles the recoil just a little bit better.

I say find one that’s on sale and go for it. I liked it so much I bought both 30SC.
Accessories are the only thing that takes longer to figure out if it will fit because sellers aren’t listing 30 SC as a compatible model but it doesn’t mean it’s not, it’s something you have to figure out.

Accessories that are for the various m&p shield 9mm and 380 models can be used to fit on the 30 SC. If it says it fits the EZ model it will fit and same for plus. EZ model has the rail underneath and the plus does not. EZ doesn’t come optics ready and you can get a plus that does with a RMS footprint.

My mtm case ammo case I get the 9mm sized ones and they fit just fine, they wobble a little more but minor issue.

I think it’s crazy that more people haven’t jumped on the 30SC

I have never heard anyone bad mouth the EZ, well except for the grip safety, but besides that I like it, especially the ease of the slide.
I may need to rent a 30SC just to find out for myself. Like I need another pistol right now. Just bought the P365-380’Rose and CR920P, love them both! The Sig is the softest shooting .380 I have ever fired and I have tried several.

Cost and unknown…
Also lack of firearms supporting this caliber.
Hopefully this round will become more popular soon.
However… it may end up like 22TCM… Time will show…

It could replace the .40 S&W

Why not? I wanted to try it out and after reading and seeing the testing federal did and compared it to 9mm I didn’t see anything but positives.

Less recoil, higher capacity for a smaller gun and performed almost the same as the 9mm so you aren’t compromising on the power.

Im glad I did get the 30SC and yes I purposely got that size. It’s a much more efficient size round to put ammo down range accurately and quickly.
