I’m intrigued by the Taurus Judge line of pistols that can use .410 shotgun shells, as an alternative to a regular shotgun for home defense. But they are not on the California register of guns that can be purchased new, so I’m wondering whether they could be bought used, or just can’t be bought in California at all?
I haven’t looked for that particular gun/model but I’ve seen people post on CalGuns for sale “off-roster” guns.
Wait, So, just a minute here… Did I read this right, there is a list, created and held by the state government, that lists the guns you can buy in California? And if the firearm I’m looking for isn’t on the Gubment list I CAN’T purchase or posses it? Where can I find this rather disgusting list? Can/how do I get a model number added to the list? What happens if the Gubment crosses a model off the list and I own one…?
I believe in CA they are considered short barreled shotguns and thus illegal. Same issue with Bond Arms derringers. Bond Arms have a California version of the 45 long colt derringer that has a non removable barrel so you can’t put on a 410 barrel. At least that was the case when I bought mine about 15 years ago, not sure if it’s still the same.
Now I live in Nevada and can buy just about anything. Yay.
Thanks! So not just having to buy used because off-roster, but can’t buy at all because barrel is too short for anything shooting shotgun shells. Not the answer I was hoping for, but now I know. Thanks again.
That was what I was told years ago when I lived in CA. I can’t swear to its accuracy or whether things have changed. Talk to your local gun shop. They may have a different answer.
Did I stutter?
Yes, probably every infringement you could imagine, we have them here.
You can buy anything! I’m surprised my neighbors don’t have F-15’s and nuclear submarines ![]()
You don’t? What’s holding you back?
NFA, it’s a takes a little longer when they see ‘A-10’ written down😀
The only way I can see to get the judge on the list is to get enough people that are willing to fight for their constitutional right to own what ever firearms they wish.
One other solution, get the H out of The People’s Republic of California! I know it’s sometimes very hard to do, but now that I’m out I don’t deal with Rosters or the BS I’d have to deal with before. Don’t get me wrong, I lived there 66 years, and I didn’t leave because I wanted to, they ran me out. Very happy now!
It’s a new way of defining “infringement.” They’re not infringing on your right to keep and bear arms, they’re just defining what are acceptable arms.
F-ing disgusting, what these libs are allowed to get away with. It’s the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES! Supposedly, California is still part of the US, or is it?
Wow,id be an illegal SOB in that state. Ironic that if I practice the 2nd, im illegal but if i jump the border…….
Pretty much.
Considering all the possibilities that are on the market, that’s a pretty restrictive list.
