Firearms or Weapons of ANY KIND?
Let me think about this for a minute:
Pocket Knife
Feet
Walking Stick
Fingers
Pit Bull
Pepper Spray
Shoe
Belt
Purse
Fists
Stainless Steel water bottle

Weapons of any kind say you pretty much can’t get in there without breaking the rules.

If my google-fu is correct…there is no legal requirement/statute/criminal charge associated with a licensed carrier carrying a pistol in that park…is that correct?

Appears to be in Washington state, where parks are legal and signs do not have weight of law plus there is state preemption

I saw a sign like that in a Nevada part and I asked the ranger about it. He said as long as I am not brandishing I was ok.

Pretty poorly worded and may not have the weight of law behind the prohibition. However, it may also just be the park covering some insurance company bases too so they won’t be liable if some one is injured with a firearm on the property.

Looks like the firearm will have to remain locked in a safe out of sight inside the vehicle, and not on your person while in the park. Is this park a US Forest Service Park? If so, it’s a Federal Facility, that would be why possession of firearms or weapons of any type is prohibited. Pretty much standard in most US Forests, National Parks, etc., EXCEPT FOR HUNTING SEASONS.

They forgot “Wipe your feet before entering park property”.

Federally, it is not illegal to have a firearm in a national forest or national park. Only the buildings are off limits.

So unless the state has a law against carrying in parks (WA does not seem to), it would not be illegal to carry in a national forest or park [assuming one is otherwise legally able to carry, generally, in that state…valid permit, constitutional carry, reciprocal, etc]

True, unless as stated if a certain state has a law against carrying they may prohibit possession such as the one example is the park on this post.

Is there a law making it illegal for the one in this post?

As I posted above, it appears to be in the state of WA and appears to not actually be illegal for a licensed carrier

Not everything put on a sign is necessary backed by a statute.

I live in WA state. No law against carrying in parks. Penmet Parks is tax payer funded. Unless a place is on the state list of prohibited places to carry (parks are not) it is totally OK to conceal or open carry with a permit. This sign is the government LYING to people about what the law is. Can anyone say misinformation? Can’t Penmet Parks be legally compelled to change this?

Is the sign at Penmet Park a newly placed sign with new rules and regulations?

I took this picture over the summer, but to my recollection it is the same sign that has been there for years. I just never bothered to read it until recently.

What kind of agency is the Peninsula Metropolitan Park District, formed in 2004?

Not exactly sure what kind of agency it is, but I do remember reading that it was created by an initiative vote of the people of Pierce County to levy themselves a property tax to create and fund it. I assume that makes it a government agency of some type? No?

Whether or not I’m sure they will invite themselves to the party.

Their website is a .org, not .gov
An agreement defines the Park as a municipal corporation, a term that’s new to me.
