How many yards away from your target. Are you when practicing. With your EDC.?

Can you hit a ten inch target at twenty yards constantly? Or is ten to fifteen yards EAZYER. ?

5 yards, with a first shot timer. Then I move the target back to 10 working on first shot accuracy and so on and so forth.

I don’t practice beyond what my eyesight allows.

I live in the 10-25 yard range. 10 helps get the first shot off quick, 25 helps with the ā€œStop Stop Stopā€ acquire shoot thing. Not really realistic but seems to help…

Jack 158 that’s Great you’re challenging yourself . I think that way you will get better use out of your ammunition. Great to hear from ya . Keep up the good work Brother. Great answer I like to start from twenty yards . An go out from there . But Debbie ann buys my Ammunition so i can waste a few before I get dialed in if I was using a timer I would do just like you are grate job sir

Mike 164 Love ya Brother that’s what most run in to the Range don’t have the Distance to practice to test your skill set I Like to start at 20 yards and get out to 37 KAZ that’s as far as the Lane . When we practice for Longer Distance we can have much more confidence at five . Ten fifteen so we don’t have a problem worrying about hitting innocence. If we have a bad guy firing at us. From a distance. That’s my take on it . I think I will get a timer and mess up my ego . Haw haw

That’s the truth I need glasses I have not found a scope for my s&w mp 2.0 or a holster . Humor kinda Seriously I practice at least twenty yards and finish up with ten keeps me sharp . I think I will start using a timer I think i go fast as possible no matter .

I like using a timer. It adds pressure, which will help practicing for a real danger situation, I think. The indoor handgun range I practice at only goes out to 25 yards. Usually, with a timer, I’ll practice at 10 yards, looking to keep my shots in about a 3" area. Sometimes I’ll run the target out to 25, but the lighting isn’t great there, and my eyes aren’t great either. In bright daylight I can get enough depth of vision to see the target and the sights together, but in the indoor light it’s hard.

Anywhere between in the face to 50 yards.

I use different distances based on specific drills. In general I stay within 20 yds., but some drills are done as close as 3 yards. I occasionally go out to 25 yds. to identify any groupings that might indicate latent patterns.

(7) to (17) FEET!
As Trever said ā€˜In your face’ (then up to 7 feet for me is most likely)

Edit: ā€˜FEET’ not yards. In a Self Defense situation
I don’t want to try and explain why I shot somebody from
yards away. Do I practice far out shooting? Of course, with my Weatherby,
but she isn’t beside my bed or my go-to in a shoot.

12’-21’. I have some fun further out, but I’d rather run/hide than try a shot that far.

Keyword is ā€œconstantlyā€ā€¦ Most of my practice is dry firing at home, so basement limits me to 10 yards.
I use small targets, between 1" - 3", so during range time life fire at distance up to 25 yards is easy, shooting 8" - 10" target
I like to challenge myself and shoot at long distances to learn how to slow down and use my precision… 70 yards seems to be my limit. Anything over 70 yards is not consistent.

Usually start at 5 yards. That’s really good for my morning attitude. Then I move out to 10 yards. Most likely the farthest I ever intend to have to defend myself or my dear bride. :man_shrugging:
I tinker at 20 and 25 yards but only just to stay capable if needed.
My dryfire laser set up is at about 17’ which is the distance from my bedroom door to the top of the stairway and about the longest clear shot in my home.

1 yard out to 15 yards mainly. Retention draws and firing at arms distance out to 45 feet are likely to be where most self defense scenarios take place. I firmly believe that any concealed carrier should become comfortable with firing from a retention hold.

When I have practiced live fire from a draw against a steel IDPA target I did so in the 5-10 yard range.

Static lane shooting from low ready at the indoor range I will run the paper out to 10 as my normal drill range (mostly do Mozambique drill with my EDC. (Sig365X)

I will run paper out to 25 yards and practice aimed shots to magnify any bad habits.

The old private range I used to shoot at was 310 yards of junk people had drug out there to blow up.

When I was shooting my G43 more often, I would ring an old shot to hell propane tank at 50 yards with 4 out of 6 aimed shots fairly consistently.

The 310 yard target was a manhole cover hanging from heavy chains. (Not as good of a gong as you might think)

I did manage to land a lucky .45 1911 shot on that gong,…. ( out of a hundred rounds :confounded_face::man_facepalming:t2: )

Joseph488 i think a timer would help me as well i know it will slow me down because it will put pressure on me going by a timer but that’s good training. I just didn’t Look at it Like that or was afraid it would make me slow haw haw i will start using one an get some glasses in am pushing 60 and my eyes are getting worse . The criminals dont need good Lighting to try and kill us an they don’t care about wild shots KAZ they aren’t waiting around Like us for the Law enforcement . So bad Lighting is good to train under . Love ya Sir thanks for sharing Love Bobby Jean and Debbie ann .:united_states:

That’s what I aim for is head shots the bad guys are wearing body armor. And as I said they don’t have to count every single round . As in being Responsible. For our actions. We Do. that means the Difference between us Going to prison and going home safely. Love ya Brother . Aim small shoot small or something like that we are all becoming experts . Because we care about our surroundings. Meaning the people around us. Love Bobby Jean and Debbie ann Sir :united_states:

That’s a good idea i dont want to take a shot beon twenty yards. If anyone that’s not threatening me is near the Bad guys. The Risk of missing goes up for me . But if you feel confident take The Bad guy out . Most can’t hit a ten ENCH target beon 15 yards. Love ya Brother . Stay sharp Bobby Jean and Debbie annšŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø
