Joseph 488 I don’t have any Lazes at all I have scopes and iron sights and binoculars not any Lazers in till I moved here 26 years ago no one user Twofeathers now every one is named their bizness Twofeathers this and that the one place on the interweb I go is uscca. The first time I ever faced time was tonight with a Brother GUNNER . i field strip and clean after every range trip no matter the round count. i am an armorer (i enjoy the armorer schools and re-certification classes) and fortunate enough to have a mechanical and technical background. now that i am retired leo, i still take in a little work to do as i have the tools. i was my department armorer for years, and did the armorer duties in my office, and on the range on range days.

Field strip is the easy part. I actually enjoy coming home from the range and cleaning my guns on the patio with some tunes playin’ and the charcoal is heating up in the BBQ. It’s become kind of a thing.
It’s the detailed strip that’s far less frequent and a bit more of a challenge with some pistols. Some don’t need it as often. But my CZ is the most frequent. It’s like it was designed to put all the parts as close to the chamber as possible so everything gets boogered up pretty frequently. 1911s are far less so, but I do clean out the extractor and firing pin holes every few trips to the range. The others don’t make it to the range as often, so I haven’t yet done a complete disassembly. But I do go after the extractors to make sure they’re clean & oiled. I don’t use any of the others for EDC. But I go the range to shoot, not to clear malfunctions.
I also like taking the opportunity to check for wear or damage to parts when I clean, especially the ones I carry. Are there any cracks or dents? Are mating parts fitting snug or is there excessive play/slop between parts? Are there any signs that springs might not be doing their job anymore? It doesn’t take that much more time, but I try to keep an eye on things. And all of that can be done while I’m still drinking my first beer.
