I have a different holster for different situations, for edc, I like leather owb, with a robust body type (ahem) iwb is very uncomfortable, now when 4 wheeling on the gravel county roads and forest service roads I use a nylon shoulder rig strapped to fall in the center of my chest. When done the plastic and stainless pistol is cleaned of road dust and the holter is rinsed in water, hung to dry and ready to go again.
Aliengear is a well made, comfortable holsterā¦ however, I bought a holster (3.5) for my Ruger SR9, which is ambidextrous, I pointed out a flaw that allowed the exposed mag release button to be pressed and release the magā¦ They responded that it was not their issue and offered to send me another shell. I had to pay another holster manufacturer to correct the hazard. BTW, about 9 months ago I did have to draw my weapon and the magazine flew across the floorā¦ very scaryā¦ I have since bought my other 3 holsters form Theis Holsters out of Arkansas (https://www.theisholsters.com/).
@Danny28. Thankās for the info,I can see where that could be a problem,so far my mags have not come lose or fell out.
Time to change the underwear, lol
The sad thing is that i only took about 1/2 X 1 inch piece of kydex to fix the problemā¦
With leather holsters I consider the quality of the leather and construction first. The best designed holster wonāt last if itās made from second rate leather and stitching. Holsters are too expensive to get worn out quickly.
I have tried a couple of Alien Gear holsters. None of them are in use.
What a reliefā¦I thought I was the only one with a suitcase full of unused holsters.
Trust me you are not the only one.
Some holsters I thought were to be avoided initially, turned out to be the only workable option, and then after trying to find a good quality, durable holster for the purpose, I eventually found that one did not exist for my Gun. In the end I had to buy a holster that wasnāt made for my gun, just to get the material and hardware with which to make one.
Not at me butā¦ I just got a alien gear owb slider for my shield, canāt carry at 3oclock because they think only large folks carry. Basically flat across the belt.
I just got mine not to long ago, I ordered the shape shift package. So far itās working great, I can wear it at 3oclock owb. Iām 6ā 2āā and about 230lbs . The other holsters I tried, made my gun look like I was carrying a 2 liter pop bottle under my shirt. My gun is a S&W M&P SHIELD and my other is a SCCY CPX2. Itās weird how others can wear a holster a conceals great and for someone else itās printing. Thanks for your input, train hard and stay safe.
Printing isnāt my problem, one point of contact from the holster to my hip is uncomfortable.
I have a Crossbreed IWB holster for my Glock 23 Gen 4. I wear that holster everyday when I am off work. It is very comfortable and secures and conceals my pistol very well.
I have changed my advice on holsters since Iāve been on here.
I no longer will recommend crossbreed, or alien gear.
I know many people on here use these and it works for them and thatās great. I really think a good single clip Kydex holster is a great first holster. Itās safe, fully covers the trigger guard, easy adjustments for retention, and you can carry in every position to find out what you like, and it holds its shape for when you holster.
I agree 100 percent @Scoutbob and I do have a few 1 clip Kydex holsters that are comfortable. I also own an Alien Gear Shape Shift and will recommend it also because the are not bad holsters. I have never had a cross breed I must say but they look good also. Maybe Iāll check one out soon.
Would you say that the Alien Gear is bulky compared to others?
Actually no, I find it to be comfortable and not to bulky, but thatās just me. Most of it has to do with the persons body type and how they feel in it. Some cheap no name holsters that you order on eBay or Etsy or other sites may be more comfortable than name brand holsters.
Sheets of kydex are cheap. Many videos are available on making your own if you posses some skills. Salvage hardware from and old holster you dislike and start building. High rise? No prob. DEEP concealment? Viola. Cant angle? Pick your degrees. Got that weird-ass light mounted? Go for it.
8x12 sheets are like $7. Vacuum sealer= Deluxe model. A couple boards and some foam? Thatāll work too.
Ovens, heat guns, soldering irons. All appropriate.
I like my Muddy River leather IWB. Fits my EVO very well and is comfortable. Took a week or so to break in but now itās sweet.
