I’m looking to get a new holster of my new Sig M18. This is not primarily for conceal carry but more for range, courses, hiking and outdoors. May use it for conceal carry under winter coats here in New Hampshire. Prefer a mid to lower carry height.
I kind of like and thinking of Vedder Light Draw or Crossbreed Reconning.

Ok maybe not all of you but definitely some of you
@Timothy330 Two OWB kydex holsters that I have for my Sig P320 are Blackhawk Serpa, and Bravo Concealment. I have IWB holsters for my Sig P365 from Crossbreed, and Alien.
I lean towards Safariland holsters for OWB. I have three belt attachments: High, Medium, and Low rise, plus a drop leg rig. Each holster has a QLS fork attachment and each belt attachment has a QLS receiver. All my holsters are Level III retention and optic cut. In half a minute I can carry any one of my pistols at any height I want. Hard to beat Safariland’s quality.
You’ll hear everyone’s favorite, unfortunately, if you don’t already, gun guys end up with a pile of holsters.
I used to like alien gear, now I think it’s over complex and poor quality.
I’ve had JM Custom Kydex, crossbreed, CYA, concealment express, Muddy River Tactical, and Vedder Light tuck. Almost all are IWB holsters.
My favorite holster company is JM Custom Kydex. I have 4 holsters from them. I have never used their owb holsters. That would be my go to personally.
I HATE my Cross Breed reckoning. I bought it for its versatility and I simply hate it. I don’t like how the retention works, I would not trust it for owb, IWB was not comfortable. I am a full kydex guy. I actually do have a crossbreed owb holster I don’t think is bad, but I still would prefer active retention especially for owb.
I think Vedder is a decent option. I feel like they’re good price for the money.
My muddy river tactical holster was cheap price but good quality and gtg.
Depending on how you plan to carry this, you might consider getting a level 2 or 3 holster. I know nothing about it I only carry concealed @Larry130 mentioned Safariland, M18 will definitely have options for that.
@Norman54 I have tried a couple. A guy here is town has 2 that he swears by and tells me he uses it due to what he wears. I couldn’t wear them since I don’t use a belt.
Are you a Hanes or Fruit of the Loom fan? Or maybe a G-string kind of guy?
Why I ask?
It is a personal preference. Two different but similar holsters may be very much the same, but you will prefer one over the other!
I have many holsters myself for one gun and I do not like any of them. I have got to the point that I do leather work, and I am making my own holster.
I have We The People holsters, AIWB and OWB for my Glock 48 and Hellcat Pro. Previously had both for my Sig Sauer P365XL. Reasonably priced though delivery can take awhile. All of the guns fit well though the wings or claws on the AIWB can be flimsy.
The 2 holster companies I’ve had the best results with are WERKZ and Muddy River Tactical. Werkz does custom kydex, I use them for my IWB Glock 41 and I use Muddy River Tactical for my OWB carry needs. They have half kydex, half leather or full leather holsters.
I still have my cloak which is comfortable and slimmer than the Shapeshifter, but then I have a Muddy River which is a great holster. My favorite still is Tier1.
Safariland for OWB
I have the modular design one. I don’t think I got the whole kit just enough for the hybrid style own 4 o’clock. I will say It was nice because it had active retention with its plastic or kydex unlike the typical hybrid design. I do think the modular design was a cool idea. I may have even bought a 2nd statement for another gun to use the same set up.
But it was really bulky, and not easy for me to make the adjustments and switches. I feel like the materials are cheap but of course that’s not a fair test of how long it actually holds up like you.
I use to recommend the full kit (I’m sure it’s changed since I last looked into it, but now I just recommend something like the Vedder which allows a decent amount of adjustment and is pretty good quality materials not too expensive. Then once the person figures out where they want to carry, when they’re ready drop the extra money on a specific holster. For example a tier 1 or JMCK for AIWB or a Crossbreed hybrid for 4 ocklock (though I’m not a fan of hybrids, but that’s my own bias. Many people use them and they work great.
