Hello if im a bar manager and have a ccw. Am I allowed to walk into my work place and store my gun in safe securely and retrieve it after my shift?

:backhand_index_pointing_up: The state and/or the bar owner make the decision here in NC. The state says you can be in a bar with a CCW but you cannot consume any alcohol. It is also the prerogative of the bar to not allow anyone to carry inside. Sounds like you need to talk to the state and the bar owner.

@Hector44 Welcome to the community! Probably depends on which state you are working at, and what the work policy is. Some states do not allow firearms in establishments that serve alcohol.

Not sure of course. However in some states, they have a state conceal carry act law, which can be found in their legislature website. Sometimes referred to as statues. It’s a long law, several pages, but I use the search/find icon feature in the document which takes me to direct verbiage.

Not my wheel house, but something tells me you’d be ok, since it’s locked, especially if unloaded and in safe. From the time you grab it to the time your’e out the door, if that takes 30 seconds and you don’t have any alcohol in your system, I’d feel good, especially if there are no customers inside when you enter/exit, or if you got a side or rear exit, more power to you.

But don’t take my word for it, and consider your company rules seriously.

IE, some states do not allow firearms in hospitals, sports stadiums, schools, government buildings, businesses whose income is 51% or more from alcohol. Check your local listings.

I never did like the idea of being forced to lock em in my car, I always felt it best if we can keep em on our person, but that’s just IMO.

Well, I am in the same situation. I first asked the owner of the bar after checking the state laws. I do not drink or partake of wild water at my work. Now, the owner said, I cannot say yes or will I say no. As for state law in Washington state it is unlawful to carry in any establishment that serves alcohol. I work as a chef so I am not in the bar or behind the bar. IF I was carrying no one will know.

So, go by the state laws and what the owner might think. Be safe out there!

You need several questions answered:

  1. Does the law prohibit carry in places that sell alcohol?
    1. If so, does it refer only to the immediate bar area of the entire facility? In Texas it does distinguish those areas, other states may not.
  2. Does the law prohibit an employee carrying at the place of business?
    In some states the Castle Doctrine covers place of business as well as residence.
    1. If place of business is covered, does the Castle Doctrine allow only for the owner or for all employees? Some states are owner only.
  3. Even if the law does not make it illegal to carry at the bar where you work, does the employer allow or forbid carry?
  4. What is the legal result when the no-guns-at-bars law conflicts with a Castle Doctrine exception?

The above complexity is why you really need to ask a lawyer or the state Attorney General ( but NOT a police officer!)

Finally, if you figure you are legally allowed to carry at work, are you willing to risk being fired to carry? You must know the published work rules from the employer, and then decide whether ot ask permission.

The answer to this question is going to come from your local and state laws. I can only answer if you are in Texas, and that answer would be NO.

Texas has a “51%” law meaning that if the establishment earns more than 51% of its income from alcohol, you cannot take ANY weapon into the establishment. If the sign outside says “BAR” it will have a “51%” sign. If the sign says “BAR AND GRILL” and no “51%” sign, you might be ok.

Welcome to the fold Brother, IF what you say is how you’re going to roll (and NOT carry for DEFENSE) My opinion is why bother bringing it in @ all, A REALLY GOOD ‘Lock Box’ in your ride covers that and doesn’t EXPOSE you to the LAWS and
 ‘Inconsistencies’ of the Man. The last thing you need in your life is an overly intrusive INVESTIGATION (Fire arm/Liquor establishment related CRIME!) , you can defend yourself to and from work (I would also) But a Bar/Restaurant/Liquor store ? I don’t know if I’d personally take the RISK in today’s climate. Guns in Bars don’t mix for me NO MATTER WHAT STATE YOU LIVE/Operate in.

Don’t listen to me for ‘OFFICIAL’ advice this is just an OPINION. Today? you can really ruin a good thing being a BAR manager/Tender by trying to ‘skirt’ THE SYSTEM. I see where the Law is coming from ‘NO GUNS IN BARS’—PERIOD. With all the ‘UNLICENSED/UNTRAINED wanna-be RAMBO’S out there spoiling for a fight all liquored up. Maybe coming @ this from the other direction Training up in Self Defense might suit your situation better ( Hand to hand, Krav Maga etc) Then leaving your firearm in the car works for you. I know you say it’s not for Defense but you have to get to your back room Snug to secure it and anything can happen between now and then. You really don’t need Elliot Ness seeing the ‘Printing’ under your Jacket or coat?
