None of this is about denying anyone “life-saving” help. Today, tomorrow, next month or next year, if a person is brought into a hospital in need of actual emergency care, they will get immediate emergency care, regardless of who they are, how much they pay in taxes, whether they have insurance, or whether or not they are here legally. Anyone and everyone who says otherwise is either lying, misinformed or ignorant.
What this is about is closing loopholes that allowed places, like California, to enable anyone, regardless of legal status, the ability to receive taxpayer funds for healthcare (not “emergency” care) and various other welfare programs. These are programs that are intended to assist less fortunate, the elderly, less able, etc. Americans. They are not intended to serve any and every individual of the world who decides they’re going to just stroll over our border illegally.
What the democrats have refused to pass is a Continuing Resolution (of the Biden era spending). There is nothing in the C.R. for the Republicans to take out, nothing to negotiate with as it neither adds nor removes anything from any program that was or wasn’t there the day before the C. R. was introduced.
What the democrats are demanding is that the greater restrictions from the BBB be removed, thus enabling the continuation of the loopholes they’ve been taking advantage of for the benefit of illegal aliens. Those claiming that it’s about extending the TEMPORARY expanded ACA subsidies (more accurately, premium tax credits) are lying. There’s a bill out there, HR 5145, right now that the democrats could sign, but refuse, that extends those for another year. If that’s what they actually want, as they claim, they’d sign on to it.
The democrats lost the election, they lost power. They are now throwing a temper tantrum at the expense of millions of Americans, including our men and women in uniform.
Instead of passing the short-term C. R. so that our representatives can continue to negotiate bills in normal order (appropriations), they’ve literally pounded their hands and feet on the floor, taken the ball, and ran home crying and screaming like petulant children.
On the so-called “Affordable Care Act”, it is a failure, period. It was not written to include temporary “premium tax credits”. The democrats added those in an attempt to prolong the life of a terrible healthcare program. They, the democrats, created temporary tax credits during COVID. They, the democrats, then wrote and passed legislation to temporarily extend those temporary tax credits via another failure of theirs, the Inflation Reduction Act. They, the democrats, had control of the government. If they were so concerned about the tax-paying ACA enrollees, why did they make them temporary, twice? They set this expiration date. Now, not only do they want socialized healthcare, they want it for everyone, including illegal immigrants.
