What would happen if it’s a P938 (that’s my daily carry)…just curious if there’s something to look out for.
I have experienced issues with the “pinky extension” sliding up on the P938 7-round magazines. I first noticed when I was doing magazine swap drills and letting the dropped magazine hit the floor. What was happening is it felt like the “new” magazine was locking into place, but upon racking the slide, it would chamber one round and the magazine would fall out on the floor. This photo shows an obviously exaggerated slippage, so I have trained myself to insert the 7-round magazines with my thumb on the very bottom pushing up against the metal floor of the magazine.

It does not take much, maybe 1/32" to 1/16" sliding up to prevent full engagement with the magazine release.
Edit: This is when I discovered it Sig P938 Mag Release Issues
Ooph! That’s a great tip. Seems like Sig needs to release a product fix and free replacement of those. You have a solid workaround, but I would expect that the be fixed in place.
Thank you @Gary_H for getting back.
Yes, they have improved it for the P938 Legion, but not for us average guys

And, no it does not work in “our” P938 - at least that is what I have been told, I have not tried it myself.
I keep Dasani in the truck the lil critters can’t open the lid LOL
I went to have a medical test in another town. When I got out to my car afterwards, I went to do something with my gun. I can’t remember what. It’s been several years, but whatever it was, I suddenly found that my holster was there, but my gun was gone!
I went back inside and looked around the waiting room. I hadn’t had to remove any clothing, so it probably wasn’t in the testing room, but it wasn’t in the waiting room either!
I drove home with a heavy heart, and more than a little afraid. When I finally got home, I found my lovely little Walther CCP, lieing right where I’d left it. For some reason I’ll never know, I put on my holster, but never put my gun in it!
I carry a smith and Wesson shield m and p 9mm ez, i know it’s a long name but stick with me, it is designed to have an easier slide mag release recoil ect ect. That being said! I have only been concealed carrying for about a year now and carried two guns, and the shield without the ez and shield ez. Only the shield ez has left the magazine in the car. But not upon learning i always always do a good just grab from base of my magazine and top of gun, ( it’s a small gun) but i highly advise anyothers to do it considering 1 in the chamber isn’t going to get you far but it is better then nothing! Also i carry a second magazine on my front side just in case i would ever need to reload! Also highly recommend, a little extra uncomfortable but concealed carry is not supposed to be comfortable it’s supposed to be comforting
Thank you for sharing your story. You actually should be comfortable carrying,…with a good belt, good holster placed in a good position on your body you should feel comfortable.
Very good lesson! On a lighter note I once went into my shop prior to making a Walmart run. I took out my G43, cleared it then gave it a light cleaning and lub. I laid it on the bench and abruptly left it there as I headed out on the required milk run. After leaving the store I did a quick gun check and almost s$#@ myself when I discovered my ccw wasn’t in its holster. I sat in my truck going over my steps in total fear that my gun was lying on the Walmart floor. When I recovered from the sudden panic I remembered leaving it on my workbench. Another lesson learned.
The worse part of that situation is the thoughts your mind makes up. The fear of the unknown. Glad everything was alright though! Thanks for sharing.
1 of the true hazards of detach mag fed firearms. It happens. This is why 2 is 1 and 1 is none.
I had that happen to me and had to change my holster because the leather hit the magazine release when I moved right. I cut out where the magazine release is and everything is alright now.
That is why I like the “Sneaky Pete” holster. The seatbelt my catch on the holster, but the safety and magazine release and magazine are protected.
ATTENTION LEFTY’S. I am a lefty. After 38 years in Law Enforcement, I have invested countless $$$$ in holsters. I almost always OWB in the 7 to 8 o’clock position. I never had the mag release issue that the OP doccumented regarding a magazine comming out, UNTIL I SWITCHED to a GEN 5 G19. The Larger magazine release of the GEN 5 now protrudes more on the left side and is unprotected by most holsters. My favorite holster was a Fobus paddle and I never had an issue with my G23 GEN 3 as the mag release is smaller on the GEN 3. The holster is listed as the same holster for both guns, they are the same platform. Now I had to abandon the Fobus, as EVERYTIME I sit down with the Fobus (in a car seat, resturant seat etc…) the mag pops out. I have contacted Fobus but I feel I am getting a brush off. I had a custom Kydex holstermaker share my concern and he left a tiny additional piece of Kydex protecting the mag release to eliminate this issue. I have never lost a magazine but with the Fobus I frequently found the mag dislodged, sometimes when taking off the gun at night. That was unacceptable. Now reaserching other holsters I find the same issues with most of them. the ones that do not have this issue have been uncomfortable or have other issues, like the holster doesnt hold the gun tight to the body and prints excessively. Anyway I am done with my rant Leftys be carefull.
Take nothing for granted. Always check and re-check your gun and mags. Always know the immediate situation. Not doing that is a formula for disaster on many levels.
