When I researched its history, I found two competitors for what became our 1911 COLT - the SAVAGE .45, and the LUGER .45. If you access SHOOTING TIMES archives, you’ll find an article on the SAVAGE, a truly innovative design - later models were downsized for .32 and .380, intended for the growing market for “pocket pistols” back then. Two beefed-up LUGER P-08s were also made for the military trials, but not accepted - one was “lost”, and the other now resides in the Colt Museum, I bekieve, valued at a million $. There’s an outfit - LUGERMAN - who makes modern replicas of the P-08, and its .45 version - priced at a mere $6,000-plus-change!
gorgeous
I have a Thompson Pit Bull .45 ACP They do not make them anymore. I cannot even find parts/
Love that model, reminds me of what one would expect an SS Officer to be carrying.
Both this and my 1943 Walther P-38 have all the appropriate Nazi markings ![]()
I do not approve of their mindset, behavior, and actions,… but they did make some cool guns!
Speaking of cool guns… my local Cabellas had a broom handle in their gun library!
Never thought I’d see one IRL!
It wasn’t a German manufacture unit, and it was way over priced for its condition… but it was there! ![]()

And they had a double rifle in .460 nitro express…
Like I need ANOTHER elephant gun! ![]()
Thompson? the 45acp "pitbull " I’ve seen and shot, a friends, is made by Charter arms. it is a good 45acp revolver IMHO. i like it and might start looking for one for me.
