Does anyone know if USCCA covers Family/Domestic violence in their plan?
If i had to defend myself in a domestic violence act and i can say it was in self-defense is there coverage? or can i get pointed in the direction of that information?

Any legal self-defense situation is covered. Or call 800-674-9779.
I just know that there are other plans out there and they specifically state that dv isn’t covered.
I’d call or email them, but as far as I know, any self defense incident in which you aren’t the instigator, not participating in illegal activity is covered. I’m not a USCCA employee, and don’t claim to be one. They know their policy best
I think the policy details are available on our home page dash board. Thought I heard we have coverage if it’s self defense, even if not using a firearm, but just using our body, arms/legs for example in a SD situation.
Yes we do have coverage. I just got off the phone with USCCA and she said she could find no exclusions for a defensive use during a DV situation.
I’m glad you are okay! Without hesitation, you should hire an experienced attorney and leave this off the internet!
The type of exclusion you are referring to is not in the policy on which USCCA members are additional insureds.
Which is to say, a “domestic violence”, family, related, etc, is not excluded.
I understand there may be some other similar companies/policies out there that do have such an exclusion, but USCCA is not one of those
Since this opens the door to coverage “what ifs”……
What if they both are members? DV aside… What if it’s between random members in public? Both are charged/convicted as there is no clear instigator.
This is just a what if….Hopefully training and common sense tell us we should not allow things to get this heated and we know when to walk away.
A coverage quandary …. It does highlight the pay it back if convicted in criminal court. From reviews online, that is the biggest negative of the coverage. I think it passes the “reasonable person/insurance” test. What about civil court? UGH!
Bear in mind the possibility of having to pay it back is based on the final non appealable criminal conviction. The main idea of membership is to use the education and training, the avoidance and deeselation, the understanding of when force is justified and when lethal force is justified, to ideally avoid the situation entirely or, if not reasonably avoidable, not break the law such that you are convicted and all potential appeals are exhausted
The potential of having to pay expenses back upon final non appealable conviction has to be there as it is not legal for the insurance company to insure that intentional, criminal act. And when you are at final non appealable conviction, it is definitively a criminal act and not lawful self defense
(policy purchased by USCCA, issued by UFCIC which is an insurance company)
Final appeal helps solidify my understanding.
Agreed training should overall help us avoid the this scenario.
Read it, if you have not yet done so.
