Coming up on two years now where an individual that was retained to provide “security” to a local TV news crew in Denver, CO during a “Conservative” (up to this point) peaceful and non-violent demonstration. The security guard got into a verbal confrontation with an individual holding a can of bear-spray; that security guard drew from concealment and broke his shot in sub 1.0 seconds-through the ocular port on the other gentleman.
Just something to think about.

If some guy is going to suddenly draw and shoot me in the face in less than one second, then I guess he wins.

He did win…a shiny pair of silver bracelets courtesy of Denver Police.

Other learning item here: Shows that the “other side” has firearms and are training/proficient with them…

That is often times 100% impossible, from a practical matter, and also illegal.

Self defense is by its nature reactive.

MHO, I think a person needs to train to a point that if you’re in a SD encounter and the attacker turns his head or shoulder away from you; you should be able to draw and shoot b4 the attacker can react to what you’re doing. I’ve heard that standard is 1.5 seconds. Wait for the proper moment and you can get him to give you a longer period of draw time such him turning his back to you. I’m not a professional nor a trainer.

As always practice, practice, practice.
