Because they are not using the “legal” definition, but common nomenclature. When people quarrel, the common term is arguing, aka “bickering”, and the ensuing, often times heated, dialog is called an argument.
I’ll argue
that’s a normal way to take the word.
I had a high school teacher who loved to debate. He probably argued with us. And he taught us a lot that way. Everyone knew what he was doing and he was well liked.
Excuse my ignorance but what is a FOID?
That ^
It’s a California card for Illinois
CCFI is not the same as FOID… ![]()
Bitte, Officer, das ist mein FOID.

A FOID card is Illinois’ way of forcing its citizens to rent from the state a U.S. Constitutionally guaranteed right. The card has an expiration and must be reapplied for and fee paid for each renewal. I that’s definitely being forced to rent a right.
FOID won’t have expiration if you keep buying firearms ![]()
That makes it even more stupid idea than it was at the begining.
So technically, we don’t need to reapply for FOID anymore.
It is.
Just like carry permits, requiring the permission slip turns a supposed Right into a privilege
Hello, welcome, and Merry Christmas @Carl156
Welcome
Welcome @Carl156
To add insult to injury they combined the CCW & FOID into one card.
If you qualify you get a “yes” on your FOID card.

I forgot and let my drivers license expire and once asked the cashier if he would take my CCDW instead. He said sure.
The FOID list is now a way for the horrible and despotic State of Illinois to confiscate your firearms.
I’m wondering who is gonna come and confiscate them? My Sheriff’s Office has better things to do and they don’t give a s.h.i.t. about registration/confiscation.

They are not coming to take our guns, FOID cards only allow you to buy guns and ammo in this state, The state does not know how many guns you have (unless they count background checks) and what type they are, not all types of guns are banned. Of course if you register they will know. The sheer number of guns in this state makes this impossible to enforce. Hopefully this summer the Supreme Court will strike down this law as unconstitutional.
They don’t have to enforce it on everyone, just you [proverbial you, whoever it is being enforced on is the one it matters to]
Kind of like speeding tickets. They can’t ticket everyone, but they can ticket you
I see it more as an enhancement if you do something illegal. They would only know what type of gun(s) you have if they seize the records of the dealer you brought them from, good luck with that. I worry more that someone sees me carrying a rife in a case to my car and calls in a red flag.
