Crazy idea, for possible crazy new laws?

Oregon is back at it trying to recreate measure 114 and along with a permit to purchase, registry, 10rd magazine or less with wording that basically bans most all magazines and is retroactive for the last 2yrs making anything purchased since they failed to get 114 effective, illegal…

Im considering a new caliber and “concealed carry platform”

When 114 first rolled out and the rush to buy was on, i got a 4" barrel 6 shot 44mag so i could have 6rds with the energy of my 18rd magazines…

I like carrying it, its fun and easy to shoot, and makes a nice compact carry.

With the attemp to bring back 114 essentially, I am looking to go over the top this time… A new cartridge, one I have never shot before and with rather expensive ammo but Im sure I’ll learn to love it.

This is it, 500 S&W Magnum

Figuring the barrel length and muzzle brake will help with recoil a bit, would be a little harder to carry but i think i could manage it…

Or maybe one with a slightly shorter barrel…

I don’t know what a 114 is, but you want to carry that? Did you lose a bet?

Good Morning ‘OpR’

There is a Vid on GAT (marketing) or 'Gunwinners.com that show a .500 Smith being shot.
Hey, what ever floats one’s boat when it comes to guns (or anything else) because I choose
to carry a .44 as my EDC (most times) so I won’t say ‘That’s a Monster what were you thinking’.
The ‘Manageability’ seems a bit over the top FOR ME on the .500 though. I’d prolly need a BIGGER BARN! :joy:
And @ $1800 wphew! that’s a chunk of change (once again, for me)

Can you move?

And no I would never carry a 500 magnum revolver for self defense nor would I personally trust the judgement of someone who did.

Just my personal opinion

…unless you actually train with it and are good with it on the clock and you’re hiking with it in moose and griz territory maybe

114 basically made you get a permit to purchase while effectively banning most firearms because of their magazine capacity and this permit system did not exist nor did it even have funding allocated to create such a thing. Put you in a publicly searchable database so anyone could find you and what you bought (guns near me .com for criminals), banned any magazines greater than 10rds and any magazine that could be easily returned to greater than 10rd capacity (removeable baseplate, removable plug, etc).

The whole thing got tossed for being unconstitutional so the politicians are tring to bring it back another way.

The state police, you would have to show proficiency with a firearm before you could be approved, problem with that, if someone has an ND, it would be very easy to go after the state who approved a person to purchase basically certifying they are proficient…

Your greater than 10rd mags were grandfathered in but only for home and range use…

Furthermore 114 required all police to be arrested and turned to criminals the moment they were off duty… Police on the clock were exempt from the 10rd magazine capacity but only when on duty… If they were off duty with their firearms with more than 10rds, they were be guilty of breaking the law…

Other counties where police have to buy their own firearms, new officers would be unable to buy their own firearm till certified by the state police as proficient in a system that did not exist and in the last 2yrs, still does not exist… Plus, the officers and the states effort to keep their identities and addresses secret would be null and void as any police would also become part of the publicly searchable database…

Didnt lose a bet, my most common concealed carry is a full size like my Glock 40 10mm long slide or 1911 10mm long slide (6"), 44mag 4" (wanted 8" but it was not available at the time of purchase).

Cant move plus I’m not running…

Everyone talks about fleeing their state when the politicians try/put unconstitutional laws upon the people…

At what point do you stay in your state and fight against unconstitutional laws?

This would be a carry, because I can, a giant FU to the state and the politicians who would keep trying to push their gun control.

10rd magazine capacity, well, here is a 5rd cylinder where 1 bullet has the power of 10rds and 5rds gives me the power of 50rds…

Further looks, may have to get the 7.5" barrel as it will be easier to get holsters for it for concealed carry.

The whole point is to be over the top.

Most people have a hard enough time concealing a sub-compact, I regularly full size and duel full size, would be easy for me…

Fits the requirements they are trying to force upon us, without losing and firepower as it were… Again, a giant FU to the unconstitutional laws they keep trying to place upon us.

I get where you’re coming from, but if it makes you less able to quickly put rounds on target to stop the attacker, and puts others at increased risk from misses or pass through, is it really bothering the politicians…or is it bothersome potentially to you and other citizens around you?

I’d like to propose an 8 shot .357 magnum

I’m the same way in CA. I was here first. The people who suck are the ones who should have to leave. Plus, look at the damage CA politicians have done and continue to try doing at the Federal level. Moving to a different state doesn’t get you too far from the lunacy. The nation got lucky that Kamala didn’t win.

Heres the thing, it would not be my primary carry, it would be the secondary.

My trusty 10mm 1911 would be my primary carry.

I have some kind of wheel gun as a backup, the tow I currently pack the most are both magnums.

I am well aware of the near 100% chance of over penetration and heavy power of a 500 S&W Magnum. I would be seeking out some good expanding ammo as well as barrier blind ammo as alternate reloads, which is the same thing I have for most all my carry platforms…

Barrier Blind 9mm, 10mm, and 44mag. Granted, this ammo is primarily intended for 4 legged critters when out in the woods to hit a threat deeper to the vitals…

Not a fan of 357 magnum, my 10mm does the same job for less with greater capacity and faster reloads.

Seems a bit pricey for a 357, even the at cost price…

8 shot

You want something different and want a “lot of gun” or whatever while “sticking it to the man” who bans removable magazines or puts a limit etc whatever…an 8 shot .357 mag is pretty wicked in its own right

Interesting. Same capacity as a 1911

I have some personal experience with the S&W 627. In an unfortunately not too hard to imagine bizarro world where the anti self defense hoplophobes got away with banning semi automatic firearms this would likely be my first choice for a home defense revolver. Though think they also make a version that is a little lighter and allows for mounting a light that might be even better.

With moon clips and some practice it can be fairly quick to reload even if you are not Jerry Miculek.

I personally like mid power .357 SD rounds for people defense with faster follow up shots. But this revolver will handle heavier loads pretty easily as well.

Good point, 1911 is a great choice when you’re scraping the barrel for the “I’d never recommend this but your state laws are so terrible, sacrifices must be made on firearm choice”

May the democrats keep the 1911 relevant lol

Pretty sure that you can not pass a law that covers a once legal action that now become retro.
