Conversations useful to our cause

Yeah, the world does feel that way, doesn’t it? It’s got my head spinning.

At the same time, the way we win this is by presenting an image of responsible, reasonable defensive gun owners that everyone would want to have as a next-door neighbor. If we abandon that high ground, it only provides more fodder to try to shut us down.

Presenting ourselves as knowledgeable, well-trained and supremely level-headed is how we get people to want us as next-door neighbors.

That’s how we win.

Well, concealed carry, as a practical matter, is totally about self-defense. Yes, the 2A is also about having well-regulated militias so we can defend the free-state. That’s a much broader topic. USCCA, I think, is primarily about advocating for responsible, defensive concealed-carry.

My belief is that as we present ourselves as well-trained, knowledgeable and supremely level-headed, that’s how we nudge the court of public opinion in the right direction. At the very least, we don’t give the anti-2A crowd any fodder.

That’s how we win.

You did not in the title, nor in your initial post, state this thread is limited to self-defense, but as you stated, “we don’t give the anti-2A crowd any fodder.” You keep restating “supremely level-headed”. That is quite vague, who gets to define that? Who’s “high ground” do we use as the definition? What if your view of “supremely” or “high ground” is not up to someone else’s view? You just painted yourself into the same corner you try to paint everyone else into that does not agree with you on your RKBA.

I’m just not worried about what anybody thinks of me as long as what I’m doing and saying is the right thing to do or say by my own measure. No matter what anyone says, the people that you’re afraid of will take snippets and bits and magnify them to make them appear how they want them to appear. It’s hard for me to understand how anybody wouldn’t understand this. This is a platform for a 2a community. As stated by the guidelines, it is not limited to concealing or self defense. If we stop being afraid of infringement, we take away a lot of their ability to infringe.

I wholeheartedly agree. When they first came into vogue, I liked the shirts, stickers, and hats with American flags composed of guns. The more I have thought about it, that is not good for our true intent and purpose to protect our 2nd Amendment rights and be able to protect and defend our family if it comes down to it. We need to be reasoned individuals with reasoned arguments. I strongly recommend adopting the approach that Ted Nugget often takes - a well reasoned dissection of the anti-gun / anti-2nd Amendment arguments. Don’t make it personal. Approach it a professional, calm focused, and reasoned approach.

USCCA is a great organization filled with great people. We all need to focus on protecting our rights, share good information, and don’t be the “silent majority”. Use our numbers to share a good message in “stereo”!

Responsible gun ownership to me is about saving lives and protecting against grave bodily harm from someone who is acting maliciously. Being responsible with a gun means following all the gun safety rules. Being responsible with a gun is training and knowing how to use it. Being responsible with a gun is hoping one will never have to use it unless you are training or hunting.

I agree with you. I think part of the problem is they go after us instead of the crooks and gangs who are the ones who us guns to rob and kill. If they did that I think they wouldn’t need so much gun control.

No, as long as anyone that can afford one… I would like an M-16… Okay, bad example, I can afford that, just not willing to pay the current price nor go through the bs required to obtain one. Final thought on this, if one does not harm anyone with these arms, what crime was committed?

Nah, I’m not on with that.

The wealthy already get whatever weapon, or army, or country they can afford. I’m fine if the well-heeled want to spring for a custom trigger or paint job — but everybody gets access to the base model or it’s just more class warfare.

LOL Okay, where’s my Space X? Not sure I would trust that base model… a box of dynamite and a safe?

Well, if Elon is setting up for space wars, I guess somebody will need to infringe him if he can’t make the Silverado model come in at a reasonable price. I know it’s going to stretch my budget to throw rocks up at him and down at you.

I want my “affordable” Ferrari… :sunglasses: Can I get a government subsidy? The less fortunate should not have to suffer such injustice.

This has formed itself into such a very useful conversation to our cause.

Your apparent case in the context of this topic is that USCCA members and 2A defenders should take a Constitutional stand to protect capitalist bling from the socialist masses — but you “want” some… Uh-huh.

Wrong cause. Wrong forum. IMHO.

I was pointing out your farcical argument about everyone should be able to have what everyone else has. Obviously, the wealthy will always have things that others cannot afford. Personally, I have no envy nor jealously for others that have a greater ability to obtain “things” than I. I have a greater ability to obtain things than many others. I see no issue with that. I have been fortunate that having worked a long time, have been rewarded for my efforts. Those that have done similarly, I have seen having been rewarded as well.

We can only do just so much to help the less fortunate. That does not make me heartless, but rational. Many years ago, my wife, at her mother’s request, bought her home. It needed a lot of work, and it had a lien worth far more than the current value. My wife made an offer to the lien holder, and bought the home, leaving her mother with about $50,000 clear. She convinced her mother to give it to her children, rather than wait until she died. Very shortly after they got the money, it was all gone.

We have spent a lot of money on her siblings - all much older than her. One time we paid 7 months of mortgage payments to prevent a foreclosure. Less than 3 months later, they were in the same situation.

I do not believe in Socialism. Some fall on hard times, many are in situations of their own making. Helping them can put oneself in the same financial hardship. My wife and I were raised in poor families. We only got out of that by hard work and personal motivation. I do not care that there are others far more affluent - that is what makes the USA so great. People are able to get out of poverty by hard work and personal motivation. Those that are more affluent are putting their money to use by investing, owning businesses, creating jobs, etc., which helps those less fortunate.

…about private ownership of Patriot launchers being guaranteed by the Second Amendment?
or spaceships? or Ferraris?

…wha’evah.

You were the one claiming everyone should be able to have everything everyone else has. That is not farcical? You then try to dismiss my reply with this non-sensical post? You have proven, as I clearly showed, you have no rational point. If you did, you would not have responded as you did.
