Concealed Carry 101: Should Body Armor Be a Part of Your EDC?

Interesting. Never thought about it for home use.

And if I were going to Chicago or SLC; I might wear it.

I have class II soft armor set in a “get home” bag in my vehicle, but never thought of using body armor for EDC. I imagine certain occupations would make it a good idea, I’ve worn it “concealed” when bouncing at R&B clubs, but “EDC” concealed wearing of body armor would be impractical. I would think for people living in high risk areas a stab vest would be more concealable as well as being protection against the blunt and edged weapon attacks that are far more likely.

Body armor logically makes a ton of sense. You see “gun guys” (who are often out of shape…just sayin) talk about winning a “gunfight”. Well, if you should find yourself in a “gunfight”, why would you NOT want to have some kind of body armor on?

From where I sit, the fact is that guys basically never wear body armor because it’s not comfortable. That’s it. Uncomfortable. Also because peer pressure can suggest carrying a gun (and unnecessary stuff like a second gun or extra mags) where peer pressure usually goes against body armour.

I know a number of guys who have a plate carrier for home defense that allows them to arm and amour up quickly at home. This makes a lot of sense to me, no comfort or concealment concerns.

Maybe someday wearing concealable body armour will become more acceptable. IDK

Plates by themselves are pretty much concealsble. For the most part, carriers not so much. Recently I have been seeing more and more ads for ultra-conceable carriers. May become a “thing” going forward.

Not for me, I’m considering a backpack for my grandson.

That was my first thought when I read the title of this thread.

I have tried to wear body armor when I am out of my house. the problem I have is, while it fits when I am standing and under my jacket my carrier kind of blends in. When I sit in my power wheelchair it becomes so uncomfortable and obvious I’m wearing it.

If anyone asks, could it pass for some kind of medical device?

Have you considered armoring your backrest and the side panels and just put body armor on your chest?

tried that a while ago didn’t work very well. But, I have switched to a more slim style carrier so, probably should try again.

While I agree that we all should be looking into someone’s concealable armor, I sort of felt like this article was being used to steer people here to the brands listed in the article. We look for the pistols to protect our lives, but ego tells most of us that we will never get shot.

Most of us should be considering if not already owning at minimum LvL IIIa protection in a .091" panel thickness. This will stop all pistol rounds except High Speed 9mm, FN57 and Rifle rounds. You might also want to consider wearing BA to the gun range, since you never know whos in the lane next to you.

Those more bulky jackets ,hoodies, and carriers all have place in in cooler weather. However, they can be a handful to wear on a 80+ degree day. Especially the long sleeve versions, since who would be wearing a long sleeve jacket in super hot weather?
