Caliber?
Same reason I’m considering a compact 1911 added to my permit (it’s a California thing).
But, would most likely be for cooler months only when I could wear a coat.

Yeah… That may be the thing.
But sometimes it’s not worthy to change the working system and look for something that needs a lot of adjustments.
I do love me a shoulder holster! Leather one with gun facing down like Dirty Harrys.
I do not like the ones that point behind you, there is something about flagging everyone behind you. I do not like that, and I am sure others would not like that either!
I have had a problem finding a shoulder holster that works for me…
and yes prefer the down type… although $300 plus for some makes me go WTF?
really don’t want to spend that kinda money for one that don’t work…
anyone have a suggestion?
I concealed carried a full size 1911 in a nylon Bianchi pancake holster for decades in the small of my back when I wore a younger man’s clothes, As I got older, I changed to OWB at about 2:30 as @Enzo_T described. Above is correct for the various shortcomings of carrying in this location. However, as far as effective concealed carry goes, in all those years no one ever called me out as knowing it was there.
Speaking of inexpensive 5" 1911

Not talking about dropping the G2C, merely adding the 1911 to make a carry rotation, possibly. The 1911 will be only the 2nd gun I’ve ever bought, and I’m considering options as to how to use it - keep it at home (with occasional trips to the range), carry it in rotation with the G2C, carry it how…
Thx for explanation.
I know that’s a personal preference…but the second question comes right away.
What is the reason to carry / rotate two different platforms?
Once you get used and become proficient with one system you should stay with it. Sometimes more is not the best… especially if we talk about saving life.
Just my option
Agreed.
Consistency is great.
Edit: Here is a thread with more discussion on a ‘rotation’
What I use 99% of the time. Great belts. Highly recommend.
I rotate my holsters rather than the 9mm striker-fired gun, as a function of how I am dressed. That does give me the consistency of position on my body and handling of the same hardware 99% of the time. That said, once in a while I do substitute a pocket carry snubby revolver for limited situations and choice of clothing. I do so fully realizing the differences in draw speed and position between IWB and pocket draw.
With a year of range experience I have been tempted to occasionally carry my single action HiPower clone, but have resisted because of the significant difference between q cocked-and-locked SA manual of arms and a no-manual-safety striker manual of arms.
@Jerzees @Nathan57 @Craig_AR you guys make good points about consistency in my EDC. Conceal carrying the 1911 would involve learning to draw and get on target a larger gun, probably from a different carry position as well (highly doubt I’ll be able to carry it AIWB with my body proportions and that longer slide).
Guess it’ll have to be my home defense and range plinking gun then…
@Victor75, as mentioned, all is personal preference, but believe me…and all others, we are trying to help, give the best advice and sometimes point the problems that people can find trying something that usually doesn’t work good.
All these come from our experience, sometimes even from real bad situations we put ourselves in.
Don’t take our words as “must do it”.
You get a choice of testing everything and then decide if this is what you were expecting or not.
I can agree with that. I mainly carry that way when at a restraunt. 99.5% of the time I carry AIWB.
So, question then, the back is 6 o’clock, AIWB is 12?
Hey @Bill168 , yes 6 o’clock would be center of back. 12 o’clock would be dead center front. AIWB is between 1 o’clock and 2 o’clock depending on your preference or body type
.
Since the right hip is referred to as 3 o’clock, that is the way I see it.
The back at 6 o’clock is commonly called small of back or SOB carry.
AIWB, appendix inside the waistband, is 11-1 depending on right/left handed…or some might refer to anything forward of the hip as AIWB
Straight up belly button is 12
Yeah… usually we refer 12 as a front and 6 as a back… but for some people it can be really confusing…

Where is the front then… ![]()
But seriously, I’m confused whenever I’m describing my 3 o’clock carry… when I’m left handed… so it might be 9 o’clock for right handed…

I’m interested to see a left-handed wristwatch that counts like Casey Kasem from 12 to 1 ![]()
So at daylight savings time we all move holsters 1 hour clockwise? ![]()
