My EDC is a Sig 365 in a Sneaky Pete holster. To be honest I am not that great with it. Last week I tried a Glock 19 and I quite a bit better with it. So I found used Glock 19 Gen 5 with 3 mags at a good price. The gun was hardly used and I had bit of fun shooting a box of ammo with it. So today I ordered a Sneaky Pete holster for it. Now I have to see how it is to carry a larger and heavier pistol.
How do those Sneaky Pete holsters work for you? It looks convenient for carrying additional items, but also looks like the draw would be slow.
You usually donāt see multi task, or item holsters in law enforcement, or the military.
They are mostly dedicated single purpose items.
Like they recommend for off body carrying items, donāt clutter up your weapon compartment, keep it dedicated to your weapon only.
No confusion, no interference with your draw.
You can still get a holster that looks more like a cigarette pack holder, or for a cell phone, just not anything else, except maybe an adjacent magazine holder.
The only other thing that I have seen police carry in close proximity of their duty weapon is their badge especially if in plane clothes vs. uniform.
Someone seeing them draw their weapon doesnāt have to look elsewhere for that badge.
One State Police Department Investigator set up is a department issued holster with a badge display leather accommodation for their badge just forward of the standard holster so that they remember to put their badge their vs. having to hook it to their belt as a separate item.
That way anyone including other law enforcement can see their badge with the pistol that they are drawing, or just in casual observation know that they are an LEO with that gun vs. not.
But, it no way interferes with them drawing their weapon.
It took a a little bit of practice but I draw my pistol with one hand and to be fairly quick. This leaves one other hand free without lifting up my shirt which can be quite advantageous. When you think about it the retention is great if you fall or someone is trying to reach it. Yes they offer pockets for a cell phone and a pen and even on some models room for a extra mag, I do not see how that would effect your draw. Only once someone asked me what that was on my belt to which I replied it was my insulin pump. I guess you can also say it was the battery for your pacemaker.

Just curious, but had been thinking of getting a Sneaky Pete for my Sig P365, and mine is the one that comes with the magazine with the pinky finger extension, is that like your P365 for your holster and does it fit well?
I have a Sneaky Pete ābelt boxā for my Ruger Security 9. It holds the weapon securely but Iām still working in a smooth draw. I do like not having to lift a shirt or other garment to gain access. However, it is way awkward in the car.
So, Sneaky Pete is an āopenly carriedā conceal carry holster STILL requiring a conceal carry permit? is that correct? But CANNOT be used as an open carry in States that allow open carry without a permit, is that true?
Thatās not a bad way of describing it.
I donāt know. I had a CCDW permit before my state adopted open carry, so the question didnāt come up for me. Iām taking a trip this summer but Iāll be in states that are also open carry AND recognize my home state permit. From everything Iāve read, Iām golden.
When you go to their web site go to Sig Sauer/365. All the different holsters show up, Choose which holster you want (I choose the cheapest) click on options and click the options you want (belt or clip, left or right handed, magazine size). In your case choose the 12 round mag size it works well with 10 round mag with extension-I have both.
In the car I put my Sig in the the side pocket of the door since I am left-handed. Right=handed I guess you could put between the seat and console. Carrying in a car is a whole different subject.
Sneaky Pete is rated for concealed carry since the gun is not visible or its outline.
Thanks, Iāll look into it.
I love my sneaky pete holster, its not really that much slower than drawing from a waist bag (fanny bag). at least for me it isnāt but, Iām a bad example because, everything is slower for me. with my disability and all. but, back to the sneaky pete. I usually use mine when I am walking were as the fanny I use a lot when I am in my wheelchair
Answering for those in Texas, in order to carry your sidearm in a box type holster like a Sneaky Pete, you must have a CCL. If you do carry in that manner without a CCL, you are in violation of the law.
I used to carry a Sig P226 for my EDC, But now itās CANiK. In fact all my handguns are now CANik. My EDC pistol is the MC9LS with the MO1 red dot sight in a WERKZ FDE Bisect AIWB holster. The sidearm on my battle belt is the CANiK Mete SFX with the Holosun 805T green dot and a Olight Baldr ProR tactical light laser. in a WERKZ M6 Outlier holster. WERKZ Holsters are known for their holsters for handguns with lights. The Bisect holster is their first for handguns without a light and is only available for IWB carry. Check out their website www.werkz.com.
Iāve had several different Sneaky Peteās and I still have a couple. I donāt worry about how fast I can drawl because Iām not meeting anyone at the OK Corral. It is a convenience so I donāt have to use a holster in my waistband, pocket or in the middle of my back. It is also legal. Accept it for what it is.
The process for finding THE PERFECT EDC is a life-long journey for most. Iāve been EDCing since the early to mid-'80s and have yet to narrow my EDC choice to āonly oneā. Welcome to āthe clubā.
Yeah, and that might be complicated by different statesā restrictions like magazine capacity, or allowable ammunition types, like NJās ridiculous ban a one of our most popular JHP. If you visit different states. A National Constitutional Reciprocity Carry Act bill there are at least two in legislative process now, could eliminate that problem.
For non-HP states/municipalites, I can recommend the MagTech 95gr JSP in 9mm. Its hovering close to 1400fps from my Kimber ProCarry. It essentially duplicates the very popular Federal 95gr JSP 9mm from the late 1980s. Massad Ayoob referred to the Federal load as a āRoto-Rooterā round.
Thanks for that, I had yet to hear of Jacketed Soft Point ammunition, but donāt plan on visiting NJ either.
Massad Ayoob is a very knowledgeable spokes person for Wilson Combat, they got a gem when they signed him on.
Absolutely! I began following him while in college in the '80s. I had the pleasure of meeting both him and Al Mar at an NRA convention a few decades ago.
