Going to visit my daughter this week. I’m a bit apprehensive about the locals so I’ll pocket carry.
Does anyone here carry in Los Angeles? Any advice for out of towners?
Are you from, and carry licensed in, California?
Yes. Statewide.
Then you should be legal. I don’t believe Los Angeles has any particular restrictions. That said, SF county sure does, so it’s off limits for me. So much for state preemption.
I live in orange county and work in los angeles, standard cc rules apply.
I carry in LA all the time. If you have a concealed carry permit for the state of California, you’re fine carrying in LA. If you don’t have a California permit, you are NOT allowed to carry as California doesn’t honor any other permits/licenses.
LA County RARELY issues concealed carry permits except to those very rich and very powerful friends of theirs. Otherwise they don’t issue permits to just anyone. This doesn’t mean you can’t carry in their county/city if you have a state issued permit though…only that those poor people living within the county are screwed out of their own permit.
My advice is to abide by your county’s permit. If they require you to notify law enforcement performing their duties (like mine does) then if you get pulled over, hold your driver’s license and CCW permit in your hand and place your hands on the steering wheel with your windows down and interior lights on (day or night) and when the officer gets up to your car, don’t say anything, just hand them BOTH cards and place hands back on steering wheel and let them tell you how they want to proceed. listen and do whatever they need you to in order to feel comfortable. Most PD and Sheriffs won’t have a problem with you being armed.
I can honestly say I know some people who went so far as to become part time law enforcement so they COULD get a concealed carry permit while living in LA county. You should be fine though. if you have any specific concerns, let me know and I can assist. I am in LA about twice a week and have carried for around 5 years now.
Thanks!
