Hi Frank, I appreciate what you say in this post, but I must make two corrections, based on what I learned in school.

Assault is an intentional act to cause a battery or an apprehension of a battery. This can be accomplished by words or movement, but there is no physical contact and it does not have to be violent.

Battery is an intentional act which causes a harmful or offensive touching of a person. In a battery, harmful can be anything from a punch to a beat-down and offensive touching can cause no harm, but the person touched just didn’t want to be touched, even very lightly.
