Back in the 80’s or so when we shot steel and other competitions, we had to meet major power factor. 9mm could not do it, so people started showing up with the .38 super loaded hot to meet the power factor required. Beyond that, shooting competition, it meet the requirements necessary. On steel however, when the shooting heavy falling targets, it required a more positive hit than did the .45 using a 200 or 230gr. round. For that reason most of us stuck with the 1911 in .45 as the heavier round was more forgiving when shooting steel.
thanks for the reply
I have a good friend of mine who was a 'Tunnel Rat" in Vietnam and he said he opted for the Super .38 over the standard .45 at the time. He said he (as well as many other) also opted for the M14 over the M16 if they were able to do so. He said he knew someone who got him both weapons along with the ammo when he needed it.
understandable… we had M14’s in our helo’s carried em for the pilot/copilot in case we got shot down…
crew was to use the door m60’s…
