Go big or go home!
I’m holding out for the 120 in a Challenger 2 or Abrams. ![]()
Sorry buddy, I couldn’t resist … I think you meant 10mm

Oops. For a second I got mixed up with my Howitzer. I meant 10mm. But you knew that already. ![]()

Does Cabela’s have the ammo for the Howitzer? or do you reload yourself?

RIA makes some very classic looking 1911’s. I got one because it is more like a series 70 which is what we had when I was in the military. It was a real plus to see how well made and reliable they are. Good choice.
Yes, obviously it was a typo, but as we are discussing large caliber handguns, I couldn’t resist. Your post had me just about spitting out my coffee. And KillJoy’s reply and pic was also quite good.
What outfit had series 70s?
All of ours were old enough to be on Social Security
At the range they rang like cowbells and the place sounded like a dairy
I’m a fan of the 1911 style 45acp having been trained and carried in the USMC. I purchased a Springfield 1911-A1 stainless about 20 years ago and it’s been an excellent low cost 1911. Bad thing is with the 5" barrel it’s not a good conceal carry pistol. I’ve purchased numerous shoulder holsters and all of them look like I’m carrying a bowling ball. Too long a barrel for waist holster so I bought a Kimber Ultra Carry II that’s also on the 1911 frame. Shoots great and very easy to conceal. The only problem I’ve found is hollow points won’t chamber due to the barrel ramp angle. Same problem I’ve found with all compact pistols regardless of caliber. I haven’t experimented with many hollow point types because there aren’t many on the shelves. Good news is FMJ rounds work great. In the meantime I’ve ordered a threaded barrel for my Springfield 1911 so I can use a suppressor because they are on the loud side. I’ve tried to order a threaded barrel from the same manufacturer but they don’t have any for 3" barrels. No luck finding threaded barrel anywhere else so you may take that into account if you plan on target practicing with a suppressor.
Hope this has helped. BTW, I’ve ordered a Kimber 1911 Dessert Warrior TFS but they’re a little pricey.
For home defense what’s not to like about a full size steel frame Government?
Soft recoil, great SA trigger, big hole and if you run out of ammo ( like the parabellum boys are always afraid of ) you’ll still have a massive club to wield.
I used Wite-Out until someone suggested glow in the dark nail polish.
The fiber optic’s I ordered arrived a week early, so no painting…just a visit to the gunsmith as I don’t own a sight pusher.
That’s I nice choice for sure. I’ve wanted one of those exact models. Most are not a fan of the full length guide rod for the same reason, and change them out to the standard mil-spec easily. Also, it takes some time and patience involved fitting when changing sights. There are you tube videos that offer great instructions on all 1911 upgrades.
Cocked and locked always ready when carrying or at home. They are safe this way. Should a situation arise, I would not want to fumble around to get it in ready under stress.
Testors model paint, or automotive touch up paint work very well also.
Old thread, I know, but I just found this video (the relevant part starts about 6:58) where the speaker discusses the David and Goliath encounter related to the projectile. It stated the stones of that valley (composed of Barium Sulfate similar molecular weight to lead) are far denser than ordinary rocks and when used in a sling were like shooting a .45 cal (though the person misstated and said 45mm - LOL). Turned out I was right… theoretically speaking… ![]()
Thanks for the link. I normally don’t watch videos, but it’s not a normal YouTube video with nine minutes of fluff and filler to deliver one minute of relevant information.
Plus the weight of loaded spare magazines😳
