Abundant Life Christian School shooting in Madison: 2 killed, 6 hurt

Another school shooting today. Sick and sad.

@Sinbad Yeah… and of course the Madison police saying nothing. Given they are in the People’s Republic of Madison, we’ll only know anything if they can blame, rightly or wrongly, the conservative right. My money is on another Nashville or something of that ilk. The unfortunate part is that the guv is all about taking away guns, so no doubt we’ll have another round of attempted gun control.

Healing Prayers up for a full and speedy recovery to all in need. Amen .

The sleepy, creepy old fool already said that he is calling on congress to pass "common sense gun laws ". Rather than enforce existing laws, why don’t we just pass more nonsensical laws. :grimacing:

Thanks.

No surprises here:

Specifically,

“ The teen girl used the name “Sam” online and the username “crossixir.” She had an extensive online obsession with school shooters and death, particularly the 1999 Columbine High School shooting. Rupnow was a big fan of the KMFDM rock band, which was also referenced by one of the Columbine shooters. (She often wore the shirt of the band.)”

Many of these mass shooters have an obsession with Columbine.

Parents: you have a responsibility for school security. I’m sick of this being a “school” issue or at least primarily a school issue.

To follow up on this, I’m just gonna tell you my personal opinion.

Every parent should have internet monitoring software on every one of their children’s devices. By child, I mean anyone who is not financially independent of their parents. If you’re paying the cell bill or buying the device or paying for the family internet connection, you should be monitoring what goes on on those devices.

If you need resources as a parent, go here:

I used a software program for my daughter’s computer usage - and she did not have a cell phone then, nor want one - and she never tried to access improper content, at least per the software. I wish she listened to us on more important topics, but teens don’t do that - my wife and I certainly did not as teens. However, we seemed to have learned to be responsible adults when that time came. Our daugher at 28 has not yet appeared to accomplish that, though the past several years we have seen dramatic improvement.

My daughter looked up something inappropriate very young. Filtering/monitoring software caught it. We were able to have a conversation with her about what she searched for. She was curious and we were able to find out what made her curious and we intervened. She still remembers that event years later and to the best of our knowledge she’s never looked that kind of thing up again. Kids can stumble across stuff innocently and get sucked in. We have very close relationships with both kids and work hard to keep it that way.

So, how did she get access to the gun? Parents did not have it secured. Will the parents be charged?

Additional details below.

@JimL per this article, “The teen used a 9mm pistol and investigators are working to determine how she got the gun.”

Also, “they are not currently looking to charge Rupnow’s parents in connection with the shooting.”

Also, “We have been made aware of a manifesto, if you want to call it that, or some type of letter that’s been posted by someone who alleged to be her friend,” Barnes said. “We haven’t been able to locate that person yet, but that’s something we’re going to work on today.”

Thank God she was not a better shot or this could have been much worse. As it is the loss of life can not be minimized.

More info. I don’t know much about this website/news source. I see some members here posting their articles.

Many years ago we looked at a private, Christian high school for our son. I so appreciated an amazing Vice Principal who set us straight. Our son had been homeschooled until then. He asked why we weren’t looking at the local high school. We said we wanted him in a Christian school where he could focus on study not problems. He told us… Christian schools are great because they work to create a place for making the right decisions. But, kids, even Christian kids, are still kids. And, there will be students there who are there because they couldn’t make it at the public schools. And some who have issues and behavior that got them in trouble at the public school. So assuming our son could go there and not make mistakes or befriend the wrong people was a bad assumption. But, the school would make very sure he had a way and a faith to make the right decision when the time came. I think about this when these kind of things happen in a private school. That school also had security wandering the halls and campus with the doors locked. They understood, and that was 20 years ago.

Are more gun laws the answer?

“Congress must pass commonsense gun safety laws: Universal background checks. A national red flag law. A ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.” – Joe Biden

“https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2024/12/16/statement-from-president-joe-biden-on-shooting-at-abundant-life-christian-school-in-wisconsin/”

Maybe there are other root causes than not enough laws. But why worry about that when still more laws can be passed or more government programs created.

Looks like school shootings really spiked in 2021. I have to wonder why.

Umm…covid scare. My daughter is still pissed about it. Luckily her school didnt shut down. But the masking and other rules that didnt work did make her mad. Her only saving grace was her hockey team found a way around the asinine rules and they still practiced and played a full season.

As for social media, shes not on any. Her phone is blocked and we check her phone periodically to make sure she didnt find a way around the block.

Just like always, many signs im sure this would happen but no one seen them…until now.

Dam shame it had to go this far

A leash might help as well!
Parents need the power and the authority to discipline their own children!
I personally think kids need to be disciplined the way we were in the 60’s.

We’ve let the past couple of generations run wild, in addition to being brainwashed by our illustrious public school system!
They are not learning to read and write, they are conditioned to kill if they don’t get their way!

Parents had the power…years ago and we still do. Unfortunately too many parents cave.

Yeah, no big mystery! Lock the kids out of school for a year, make them wear masks, take away after school activity and sports, socially isolate them, then put their parents into financial ruin and all the stress that causes in a household, have the parents working overtime just to afford groceries…

I can’t imagine why kids started losing their minds in 2021.

Must be all the high capacity magazine clips for the assault weapons being sold at Walmsrt to any 16 year old with a parent’s credit card. That must be it. Need more laws!
