While I was Amazon-shopping, I ran across four Boy Scout-pattern folders - SCHRADE’s “Uncle Henry” with staglon grips - their “Old Timer” with delrin grips - ROUGH RYDER’s “Kamp King” - and the once G.I.-issued, all-steel folder. All of them have the same four blades, large lanyard shackles, and won’t bankrupt you - if you want an alternative to Swiss Army, this is one step back into nostalgia. FYI

I was given a Cub Scout knife as a lad.
The spear point closed on my fingers the first time I tried using it. ![]()

My worry on many of the less expensive knives is that the tools will deform with sustained use. This is why I pretty much stick with LM and Vic. For the record, my first knife was a SOG Paratool that is 33 years old and it’s held up well, and my friend uses a Gender Multi Tool and loves it (my Gerber Mini MT depends the 3D Phillips the first time I used it).
