I also wonder when this happened, and who the holster-maker was. This guy’s starting to look like a “legend in his own mind” character. A self-defense instructor once related a story where a sheriff claimed that he could have his gun out and on him before the instructor could strike, and shot himself in the leg with his holstered .38. Another also-ran.
I wonder if his Python was modified. Since 1907 (?) Colt revolvers have had a “Colt Positive Safety Lock” that blocks the hammer from firing unless the trigger is pulled. It’s my understanding that this is why Colt named their line “Police Positive.”
Pic of Colt Positive Safety Lock from American Rifleman:
Smith has been using a similar system since the mid 1940’s (IIRC).
Pic from user on DefensiveCarry forum; the user mentions purchasing used Smith’s and finding some with the hammer block removed and needing to replace them from online parts shops:
Maybe he tinkered with it, or paid a 'smith to do the job - I’ve seen Smiths and Colts with the fronts of their trigger-guards REMOVED to make it faster to reach the trigger. The holster??? If it had a strap or thumb-break, he might’ve removed THIS, too. A real-world “Quick-Draw Mcgraw” - speaking of tinkering, I’ve heard of hammerheads that’ll go into a gunshop and proceed to demonstrate their field-stripping skills!
I don’t know. It fell out of his holster, went “bang” and put a hole in his leg.
