2024 election: whatcha gonna do based on results?

The only war I want to consider is our northern and southern borders. Man migrants have started using the northern border to cross illegally. Let’s stop that then we can talk about something else.

Bring all of our soldiers home. Let them protect themselves.

Sometimes we have to be apolitical to improve things. That includes compromise. God knows we have been going backwards for a long time. A compromise could turn it around.
Disagreeing with the other party just because it came from the other party is ridiculous.

My BS meter wrapped around the peg, I need a new one.

For most of life I considered myself a political centrist, and was always registered as independent. FJB and the modern left pushed me to join the Republican party, and I find myself moving ever more to the conservative right.

Like you, I can’t find any common ground with the left. One example is the environment. I used to feel as though the democrats did a better job looking out for the earth. No more. Now they’ve gone crazy with insane mandates trying to fight global warming but able to do nothing about the Chinese and their coal plants, while left wing agencies like the New York Dept of Environmental Protection want to cut down old growth forest to sell the lumber. In the meantime, down here in Florida, our conservative governor is doing real, honest work to restore the Everglades. That is environmental work that actually makes a difference.

I could go on and on, that’s just one example.

I posted that graphic, wrote it out, repeatedly because it’s been requested.

The problem that arises from trying to study violence as it pertains to firearms is that researchers always include suicides. Which artificially inflates the numbers. When you remove suicides the data becomes clearer. Then you remove the top 5 cities it becomes starkly apparent that Gun Control does nothing.

As an example, Birmingham, Al. Is rated as one of the most dangerous cities. What happened? Did everyone in Birmingham go on a shooting spree? No. What changed then? The Suburban cities around Birmingham started reporting gun violence inside their own City Limits (9 of them) rather than as a part of the Greater Birmingham Metropolitan area. So the same overall firearm rate but now instead of being a percentage of 2,000,000 it’s a percentave of 200,000.

It’s why any study based on statistical modeling is easily manipulated by the bias of the researcher consciously or unconsciously.

We’ve all seen how statistical modeling is manipulated.

Jimmy can’t answer that question. He only regurgitates what his TV tells him. Don’t be like Jimmy.

I believe in the long term that it doesn’t matter which side wins. The Republicans, Democrats and their behind the scenes puppet masters have been working for the past 4 plus decades to enrich themselves and their backers at the expense of the rest of us. They have succeeded together in putting us almost $36 trillion in debt with annual interest payments now over $1 trillion dollars! Both those numbers are growing rapidly and will continue to do so under both these candidate’s plans. Neither one has seriously admitted to the problem let alone come up with a plan to even remotely try to solve it.

They have bankrupted us and the only way out now is through default or massive inflation to devalue the debt. Either way us peons get screwed. As it becomes ever harder to hide the fact that the wheels have come off our economy both parties are going to desperately seek ways to deflect blame from themselves. Most likely with the tried and true methods - starting major foreign wars or (more likely and) creating internal threats they can respond to with draconian security measures. They clearly see U.S. citizens as their biggest threats even though, to this point, we keep letting them rob us blind.

In the short term - Neither side is likely to accept the legitimacy of the other side winning. This could create the opportunity for agitators to create the excuse the government needs to take away the last of our remaining rights. Harris will go along with that plan willingly. I suspect the military industrial complex is finding it harder to predict how Trump will react to that plan. Thus their shift to their going all in on trying to get Harris elected. Though when talking to never Trumpers I find Dick Chaney’s endorsement of Harris as the strongest argument not to vote for her.

But I also suspect if Trump wins the puppet masters will have no problem pulling the plug on their Herculean efforts to keep this sunken ship afloat. Then they can place all the blame for the collapse on “outsider” Trump much as Hoover gets all the blame for the Great Depression even though that disaster was also decades in the making. If we are incredibly lucky this melt down will only be a little worse than the Great Depression and the resulting WW2🤞

These words, though may potentially become a reality, are unpleasant.

Musk said at the MSG rally that he could shave $2 Trillion dollars out of government waste if he became the head of Trump’s Government Efficiency Commission.

That is a good point. I see it differently. My question is researchers include moral violence and immoral violence when it pertains to violence. Moral violence is what stops immoral violence. They are both included when it pertains to firearms violence. I tried to explain this to people, but nothing seems to be working. as far as suicide goes, I think the only way to stop it is to give people the love they need. Have a blessed day.

And it now seems that Ron Paul likely will be involved in butchering the bloated, unelected bureaucracy. I see this as an immense positive. Elon slashed over 75% of the bloat at Twitter and it is so much better. I’ve seen people crying about “what would all those blob people do for a living?” I say after all the illegal invaders are deported, these useless eaters can learn to pick crops and actually be a benefit to society for the first time in their lives.

Thanks, I checked they received my ballot. I will still be here after the election no matter which way it goes, and encouraging people to be responsibly arm.

This is an interesting read. It allows you to build your own forecast for the election. Click on “Switch Maps” and start with the “538 Forecast” map (upper right corner) to see what states are in play and which ones are solid Ds and Rs. Then you can then click on what you think the result would be in those states and the impact your guesses have on electoral college vote totals.

My prediction is Harris 261 v Trump 277

A close election will make no one happy. And whoever loses will claim the other side cheated somehow, further exacerbating the partisan gridlock that has become our nation. I hope that our country will not devolve into a country where violence and Americans killing Americans is the preferred political system.

This is a great question: I wish should would have been required to answer it in those terms. Instead of “I grew up in a middle class family”

Thanks, Mark. Close elections can be easier when the parties are closer together…but that isn’t true today.

It is my hope that red wins all over, that they truly clean house at all levels, and that we have 12 years of excellence. After that, hopefully we’ll have two good parties (or more) to choose candidates from.

It dawned on me that we have to generations of voters who have known only messy times, and who also have no knowledge or care about actual history, 9/11, the world wars, etc. They’re making choices on what they know. It is hard to fault them.

Musk has proven himself to be a great innovator but the jury is still out on his ability to keep his companies running efficiently and effectively over the long term. I know a couple of people with Teslas who have had a lot of issues trying to get them serviced and repaired and read of many, many more. I have also heard from people involved in some of his projects that his work places can sometimes be a big crap show.

Much of the wealth in his companies is based on the hope that they will someday prove to be viable in the long run. Now that the government subsidies for electric vehicles are winding down and competition has picked up it’s going to be hard for his cash cow to stay in the black. I have little faith his technological expertise is going to suddenly turn the government into an efficient machine.

Not to mention that our economy is now largely dependent on government spending. Sooner or later we will have to admit that well has run dry. But as soon as we turn down that faucet, even a little bit, the true state of our unhealthy economy will quickly be revealed for all to see. Then all the bills are likely to come due at once.

I think they are making the same choices we have all been making for the past several decades. The politicians always run on some version of “Vote for me and you and your children will prosper!”. Only once they get in office only they and their backers prosper at the rest of our expense.

I don’t have the faith you do that the Republicans can, or even remotely want to, clean up the mess they have been actively making along with the Democrats for the past several decades.

I don’t disagree, Shamrock, but we have only two choices, and one makes more sense than the other to me. We have four years of each to compare. I really like Vance and think that he has the best chance to help us.

Vance appears to me to be the most competent VP candidate we have seen in awhile. But I suspect our problems are well past the level that competence can resolve. And I am not so sure he isn’t just another corrupt cog in the wheel.

The problem with voting for the lesser of two evils is that we end up where we are today. I know I am in the minority here, and seemingly everywhere else, but I just don’t see the Republicans or Democrats being able to solve the problems their greed and corruption have caused. They have had decades to do so and keep sucking us further down the same hole.

But they and their backers get to keep running the show as long as enough people keep voting for the poor choices they stick us with. If enough people stopped holding their noses and voted for none of the above instead then the two parties would have to start listening to us or get out of the way.

We may need to find a competent person who doesn’t want to be president and force them into the job with our votes. The people willing to wade their way through the Democrat and Republican swamp to become President just aren’t cutting it in my opinion.
